Stars finally aligned and got the 2.87 gears installed (Stock 1078 with Goodyears at 70psi). Since I picked up the truck last Thursday I have put around 50 miles with the new gears. Initial reaction is that it makes the truck much more usable. Combined with the soundproofing makes for a quiet...
i can't remember what codes i had but when I got the truck the Tranny didn't work. Got lights on the controller but had a bunch of codes relating to the pressure switches.
It was easiest for me to pull the multi connector off the cab behind the front grill and go through the pins and...
I guess more than anything people will need to look at how they will use their truck. If I needed to use the truck at its max weight capability or was a truck that was going to be used strictly offroad I wouldn't change anything about the gearing.
However, in my case it will have a fairly...
Having just gone though all of these questions and seeing Bret's ad about the 2.87's I decided I better get going with my project and order a set from him. First and foremost, Dealing with Bret was a pleasure. Straight forward, honest and informational regarding what I was buying. It keeps my...
Not sure where to post this...but since it would be for a 1078 I thought I would ask here. Looking for a side opening door on a shelter and saw this. Are their any other models that are like this?
Thanks,
Blair
While I am up for adventures buying an lmtv from an auction and then drive it across country might be a little more "adventure" then its worth. Personally I would wait for a truck to come along closer to the west coast and save a lot of hassle. Mine came from New Mexico and I had it shipped to...
I ended up doing the same. Mine is registered as a commercial truck currently. I paid the extra money to have it sent with a title. Overall the process was smooth I thought for dealing with 2 California governmental agencies. After CHP verification I returned to the DMV handed back my paperwork...
We dropped the drive line. The pack is pretty heavy and having some sort of jack underneath is necessary to safely move it around. Removing the pan didn't take that long in the big scheme of things. We also removed the harness that internally runs to the solenoids and did a continuity check as...
My Truck (1997 1078 wtec2) came with a wonky transmission. Wouldn't shift into drive but was able to clear codes that would return as soon as the truck was started. We checked grounds and found everything to be ok. Went and checked ohm reading and found out one was shorted. We made the decision...
Having just gone through the process I can tell you there is a lot of ignorance and misinformation within the system. I chose to bite the bullet and register the truck commercial so that I could make sure the bugs are worked out prior to converting to an RV. And though it took some time waiting...
So like many people have already done I started the removal process of the interior coating. Started trying to grind it out and after 45 seconds stopped. A dust storm ensued with very little progress. Also reminds me to not grind with my tongue out... Next was using a heat gun and gasket...
Considering that both the door handles and window lift cranks were the cheapest that could be sourced it appears, my plan is to look to the Hot Rod community for custom handles. Also was interested in looking at electric window kits to see if any would work on the lmtv. I already bought new...
Actually pretty easy to do I think. Plenty of step up convertors to take it from 12v to 24v. I had researched it when I had a Unimog 1300 that had 24v. Found it was easier to add a 24v to 12v convertor to add 12v items.
