    Dim Dash Lighting

Yes, the drawing above is correct. When Warthog said a black wire is connected to the grounding bus, I looked for one connected to one of the tangs. It's not. It is plainly routed to the center screw holding the bus to the kick panel. Can't see the forest for the trees thing. I'll unscrew and...

    4 Hour Oil Change

Sucks!. If you have been changing your own oil for any time, this is gonna eventually happen. I look at all the posts on this thread and shake my head... "I've been there", and "Had one like that too". It's these things that make it possible to manage other equally difficult mechanical SNAFUS in...

    Dim Dash Lighting

OK, I have been sifting through the various manuals and got a new perspective on the instrument panel. It shows the ground wire Warthog pointed out. Here is a picture; I highlighted the ground wire blue. It comes off of the harness that feeds the WAIT and WATER IN FUEL lights (YELLOW). The...

    Dim Dash Lighting

ralbelt, check that, Black wire. I actually meant to say that I had not found the wire he had indicated as a ground that runs to the ground bus on the drivers side kick-under dash. Does anyone else have a wire that connects from that cluster connector to said ground block?

    Dim Dash Lighting

Warthog, how about it. I just looked at the connector at the back of the cluster. I don't see a blue wire that would run to the ground you are advising of. Is it a single wire strand that is separate from the bundle?

Sparks from below could it be the starter?

Warthog, Thanks for the confirmation. I've read some other threads re: switching to a GR starter; seems like I may have a hassle finding brackets. I need to get -up-and-running pronto, so I'll go with a new direct drive. Am I correct on the new starters not needing to be shimmed, as opposed to...

Sparks from below could it be the starter?

Batteries look like they do in this diagram. I checked fuses and wiggled some wires before staring (trying) it last night. When I turned the key, there was an odd sound like bacon sizzling. I turned the key off and tried again; but it never came back. If the batteries are attached as they...

Sparks from below could it be the starter?

How does the starter get ground? Is it grounded by bolting it to the engine. I see one power wire, and one black/purple wire to the solenoid- this one has some worn off insulation.

Sparks from below could it be the starter?

Uh Oh! I am looking over the starter and the number I get off the case is 1998451 Delco. I plug that in to NAPA and I get: Starter w/ Solenoid - Remfd Product Line: NAPA Pro Series Electrical Interchange Mfg.: Delco Remy Interchange Mfg. Part Number: 1998451 Compare the detail say this is...

Sparks from below could it be the starter?

OK, I think I have to pull the starter and check it out. So most likely the starter and not the solenoid? I don't like to complicate things; but what I need to know is should I take the starter down to the parts store and ask them for the same thing? Is there a better one that I won't have to...

Sparks from below could it be the starter?

The other day I had that starter malady that is generally solved with a couple of bangs from a hammer: I drove to pick someone up. Turned the M1009 off and 5 minutes later; went to restart the engine. I got lights; but no crank. I've had this happen on other GMs so I crawled under with a tire...

    replacement seats

Afer I bought my M1009 last september, I asked the same question. I made notes and found that you can get seats in good shape at the wrecking yard. Look in the S-10 blazers and trucks, The seats from the Olds Bravada were said to be the same as well. I found a set of blue ones that are in...

    GL price fixing?

OK, not everything is a conspiracy... we are talking about the government here, and even though it is MY government I am not blind to the corruption that all governments have. Follow the money trail, it points in the direction of the person who benefits the most.If it not something that any...

    GL price fixing?

I believe the FIX IS IN alright. Why is it that the much awaited surplus HUMVEES are never going to make it to auction? Because someone struck up a deal with someone to control the sale of these very valuable vehicles. Everyone wants one of these. And while we still get a M series rig for a...

    M1009 got hit this morning

If your state is anything like the one I live in... the law says that the insurance company has to restore your car to pre-collision condition. If your paint was CARC or a reasonable facsimile thereof, make the paint shot get it. Insurance companies will weasel out of stuff. A call to your...

CUCV tool kit...what do you carry?

Check this out on ebay: 50 cal ammo can BOX LOCK Cool; idea but the puny padlock that fits through the pin is not much of a hassle to get through.

CUCV tool kit...what do you carry?

I carry my truck tools in a .50 caliber Ammo Can. They have been selected for my C20- see my avatar. It has the 350 so some of the tools crossover. I was thinking about adding another .50 cal ammo can with the tools that are needed beyond what I have in my original truck set. This can would have...

what branch/unit did your cucv serve with?

I bought my rig (M1009) in Portland from a dealer with about 5 on his lot. He did not say where he got them. Maybe at Ft. Lewis. As I was sanding the bumpers, all I could find is "HQ 101" No idea what that means.

    vehicle security

Well I am not sure that a mild attention getting shock constitutes a man trap anymore than an electric fence does. The alarm plans I had had various jolts it could be set to deliver. I expect that the amount of trouble the police (or civil case attorney) could charge you with is entirely...

    new shocks; what next?

Is the steering stabilizer just a single shock with a bracket and a pin? I see these advertised under $50. Is this what I need?
