I just finished putting in two group 31 batteries. Went to start it thinking that would end my starting problem... NO.
I have gone thru the TM manuals for troubleshooting the starter; but I think it must be the solenoid- the starter is new and under warranty; I'd rather put a solenoid in; but I...
I like the look of the 6TL battery; but I would rather drive than admire a dead battery. If there is no great replacement for a 6TL I am looking at options:
The Red Top Optima 34/78 has 800 CCA / 1000 CA is this enough? I don't have a winch or large electronics on-board.
Undercoating! Yep, I am going with that when the sun comes out again. I plan on shooting as much of the wheel wells as possible. May try to spray the inside of the hood .
I have some of the sound mat sheets to slip into the doors and on the inside firewall under the new mat I bought...
I like it. I'd start looking for one if I had a place to park it.
Maybe cause for another thread; but Q: Do you big truck owners simply collect these rigs or do you find they are good daily drivers? I am watching the cost of gas/diesel rising and am wondering about all the V8's in the driveway...
#%$^%@^! , I got in the Blazer, waited for the WAIT light. Cranked as it should but did not start. I tried again and on the second turn all I heard was CLICK.
Someone give me another troubleshoot I can try please. I, like you, need reliability and after laying on my back for a week to get it...
Paint! I take my rigs in the stix during hunting season. They squeeze down dirt roads that crowd in from both sides and discourage most after 5 or 10 yards. I keep going as the worst that happens is that I get branch marks in the paint. Sometimes the road opens up and I get into some nice back...
I have a suburban that does the same thing. It started about the time I noticed my dash lights and amperage lamp surging ever-so-slightly. Have your alternator(s) tested.
yes, the starter support bracket. If you don't have one, you need it. If it is loose, you need to remove/clean it and the block and replace it. I recommend adding the ground wire ND cleaning the existing grounding strap.
I am going to add a simple alarm that sounds when it senses a current drop- as when someone tries the handle.
Because I leave my truck in the sticks while I am out hunting, I usually add a battery ON/OFF knob to kill all power and keep from ending up with a dead battery in case of my negligence...
What kind of clicking noise? Is it a single contact being thrown once like the starter solenoid, or is it the rhythmic tic-tic-tic-tic type you get when your battery is low or the cable is loose or corroded?
I would clean and tighten the battery cables first. The next thing I would do if the...
My M1009 has a cable that runs to the starter downward- where you find the fuel pump on a gas V8, there is a metal strap that attaches the cable and another one as well, to the chassis with a bolt. It does not "need" to be connected there; I think it is just cable management to keep it from...
Plowboy, check out this recent post: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/cucv/64967-how-does-spare-tire-mount-back-m1009.html
A few ideas, on hardware. If you cruise the chevys at the boneyard, you ought to get what you need in short order.
Check out my recently resolved thread. My starter, a newly installed Gear Reduction model, would click at the relay and the solenoid. I could hear a loud click like the solenoid was kicking the Bendix out; but no spin-up of the starter. I checked all my wiring except for the ground where the...
I always wanted to add something here...
Just finished replacing the starter. A new Gear Reduction for a direct drive- the label and number stated that the DD was a 12volt.
I also made the upgrade to a starter relay of the doghead variety. I am happy to get my Blazer back on the road.
Just changed out my direct drive starter for a gear reduction starter. Did mine in a rain-soaked gravel driveway. I followed the advice I found here and jacked the body up. A hi-lift under the brush guard and some jackstands. 3-6 pumps and I was able to remove the nuts from the support bracket...
