I think alot of the reason they weren't used for long was the dificulty in maintaining them.
They took a lot of effort and that isn't readily givin.
They are fantastic little vehicles, and I've seen them put Hummers and the rest to shame. A special built vehicle can out do them, sure, but...
It's not a hard crimp. just enough to hold the cap on.
Take an old one apart and you'll see how easy it it.

Go with the SF-97.
I took mine down to bear metal and found nothing but a few part numbers.
Luck was I had the data plates intact so I stamped the numbers in several places in case one of our "Citizens" borrowed it.
Some vehicles had the number stamped in the front on the drivers side but...

Put the M-816 to work today. Picked up a Troy Steam engine.
It's an 11 inch bore and a 10 inch stroke. Weighs around 6000 lbs.
My friend, 70deuce, brought his deuce and we loaded it up. The wrecker didn't know it had a load and the deuce hardly setteled in the suspension.
