    gull-wing 5-ton shop truck

I seem to recall that they're called SEORTM trucks. I don't recall the M numbers. I would love to have an intact one on an M939-series frame! Hmm, let's see what Mr. Google has to say... ok, the SEORTM "bat wing" would have been mounted on an M811 or M944 chassis.

    Wrecker bed modification

I like the idea of re-rigging the hoist cable to a spot lower on the boom to position the hook over the spare and toolbox area. How about replacing the bolt that secures the clevis end of the cable with a pin for easier removal? The pin would need to be strong enough, naturally, much like a tow...

    M923A1 Abs Light

Upon further examination, my new M936A1 doesn't light up the ABS light briefly at turn-on time, and at least one of the fuses is pulled out. Hmm... it may turn out that I need to use my diagnostic box after all. Off to the TMs to learn some more before I start working on it!

First time poster/long time lurker Knoxville TN

When you post, look for the "Manage Attachments" button underneath the smilies area. That brings up the pop-up for uploading pictures to the posting.

It looks beautiful! And it matches your dog! Don't you just love how our dogs like to pose with our trucks?

    M923A1 Abs Light

Will do! No guarantees that I can do anything to it, but I'll at least autopsy it and share my findings. I don't think I'm the only electronics geek on the forum.

M936A1 Wrecker Crane Hook Not Lowering

I think that the crane is different on the M108. If my memory serves me right, doesn't it have a longer boom with both hydraulic and manual extensions? Comments from folks about replacing the cables on M543A2 (very similar crane to the M936, as far as I can tell) suggest that the 95' number from...

    M923A1 Abs Light

Of course Haldex says that. Most of their customers aren't electrical engineers who design circuit boards and rework surface mount stuff every day. ;) Edited to add: Does anybody have a dead ECU that they'd like to give me to see if I can do anything with it?

M936A1 Wrecker Crane Hook Not Lowering

The existing thimble should be reusable if it is still in good condition, right? I haven't taken one apart before, but my recollection from what I've read is that it is attached by slipping the clamping nut over the cable end, pushing a metal wedge into the cable core, and then fastening the...

M936A1 Wrecker Crane Hook Not Lowering

Hmm, the -10 TM said there's 95' of crane hoist cable. Is that incorrect? Clearly I should measure what I already have before buying a replacement cable. Hopefully I won't need to replace it just yet. I'll find out after further inspection and PMCS. I looked up the part number of the cable that...

M936A1 Wrecker Crane Hook Not Lowering

My lube order says I need some VV-L-751 lubricant to lubricate my cables, but it doesn't provide a link to a web page where I can buy it. :) McMaster-Carr carries molybdenum disulphide based "open gear, wire rope, and cable lubricant" in 12 oz aerosol cans for around $10 each. I wonder if that...

M936A1 Wrecker Crane Hook Not Lowering

Yes, it is rusty. I'll check all of the sheaves, but maybe my cable is just too stiff?

M936A1 Wrecker Crane Hook Not Lowering

Yesterday I fired up the crane on my new M936A1 wrecker, and I found an issue that I never encountered on my old M543A2. With no load on the hook, when I push the hoist control forward the spool rotates and cable reels out from it, but the hook doesn't lower by itself. The cable just slackens...

    M923A1 Abs Light

I haven't gone searching for the ECU yet in my trucks, so I don't know what it looks like. Does it appear to be potted? If it can be disassembled, then component-level repair of blown ECUs may be practical. The same question applies to the PCB. If it can be opened up without too much trouble...

Welcome to the site! Good luck tomorrow, and if you do buy it, keep in mind that you are required to share pictures with us. I'm pretty sure that's a federal law.

    M923 trans shifting early

I'm wondering out loud here... would an Allison repair shop be likely to have equipment that would let them do a better job of flushing out the 10 weight oil and replacing it with ATF than the way I'd do it myself with the repeated drain/fill/drive method? I haven't flushed my M923 transmission...

    M923A1 Abs Light

If you have to pull up the accelerator pedal, then that sounds like either a missing/broken accelerator return spring or a sticking accelerator pedal/linkage. It would be a separate problem from the ABS warning light. Both problems are things that you need to fix before putting the truck on the...
