Cruising speed on the m939 series is about 50mph, 55mph with the a1, and about 60mph with the a2. The NHC250 engine in the m939 and a1 series likes to cruise at about 1700-2000rpm (cruising speed changed because of the taller tires), above that and it will guzzle the fuel. the 6CTA 8.3 liter in...
Heh hopefully it unspools better than mine did. Lower layers were wrapped over the upper layers in some spots and wouldn't come out even with a vehicle dragging the cable (winch in free spool).
Yes same concept with the rear winch of using another vehicle, just power out. Preferably a...
Those trailers are not scarce around here by any means, price ranges between $500-1500 for the m101, 1101, 1102 trailers here whether on auction or the local ksl classifieds (similar to craigslist but much more active here). M105 and 103 are cheaper.
It's the same thing that happened with the 2...
The front springs do flex some on these trucks. In the video of my m816 going up that hill you can watch the front axle articulating. Could certainly be smoother though.
@simp5782 if you know of someone interested in the bridge truck wheels/tires let me know, haven't been able to move the 6 I have at even half that price.
Loaded up the spare tires/wheels onto the m103a2 trailer chassis (used the deck for a flatbed build on the pickup) along with some parts that were sold, then towed the trailer off to the new owners place. Loaded up their fuel tank onto the trailer once it was there.
The 5 ton drivetrain has the output on the driver side, his deuce requires passenger side outputs from the tcase. Even without the front axle powered the rear driveshaft would be sitting with a sideways angle going from the tcase to the middle axle. Plus a deuce doesn't have the power to move...
Castle Bravo is the one who pointed me towards the step boxes. Was discussing the idea of using the tractor/dump boxes up there when he got the measurements for the step boxes and realized that they work even better for my particular application.
A spare tire could be mounted up there under...
Rather than a pre cleaner you can run the air ram, Donaldson makes them for out size intake. Others on the forum did testing comparing it to the stock mushroom cap and it makes an improvement. Old pic of it mounted on my m816. It's also more visually appealing than a prefilter haha.
I'd do...
So long as the 8.3 is kept in it's main RPM range (2000+) then the turbo will help keep it cool. Below that the turbo isn't spooled up yet and not really helping anything. Your slow speed application isn't ideally suited to the 8.3 without some other upgrades (compound turbos).
If you're in the...
I used the passenger side step boxes from m939 series trucks, just rolled them on their side and cut the steps off. Another option like this member did was to use the box that mounts on the spare tire rack on the tractors/dump trucks.
Adding weight to the front helps. I added these boxes to the front of my wrecker to carry the snatch blocks as a counterweight when lift towing but it helped smooth the ride out as a added benefit. There's about 600 pounds added.
First try manually down shifting to keep the rpm's in the 1600-2100 range, that's where the 855 series engines are happiest. Slow speed offroad driving is where the nhc250 beats the 6cta (and the 8.3 needs even higher RPM's to get the power or else it will build EGT's even faster/hotter).
I know the feeling haha. My current motorcycle is a BMW F800GS, beautiful bike and easily the most refined one I've ever had. But I prefer the old Kawasaki KLX650 I had before (not KLR, KLX model). It was a 650cc street legal dirtbike that weighed 330 pounds with a headlight, tail light, and 1...
From the military no, the a1's only had the nhc250.
Both engines are good and their performance from the military varies depending on what the mechanics did with it (adjusting the fuel). For example there is a part of the highway near me that is somewhat steep going around the point of the...
