As regards to the comment up above, does it mean he needs a second LMTV, or a second wife? As he's in Arizona I am sure there are a few folks lurking around there that might encourage either acquisition! Since I am not fond of CAT products due to cost and pain in repairs...

Looks like Davis- Monthan AFB and Boeing are going to be a little busier pulling FA-18's off of the deadline and repairing them for the USMC due to delays on the F-35 project.
Perhaps there are a couple of F4-U Corsairs or F3F4 Wildcats that could improve our response time...

You may want to be very, very careful about how you flush your truck's radiator. I did my deuce and a half in Texas even though it behaved for me. Had a deuce mechanic flush it, and on the way back I lost more antifreeze then you could imagine. What happened was that the crud...

You may find that the SEE with its attachments off may be a surprisingly "Squirrely" vehicle on the road due to the short wheelbase length. If you note the old S404.114's and later U1300L's they have a much longer wheelbase length, which improves their handling...

;)
Remember, if the U1300L is 25 years or older, the safety and emissions rules for the year of construction would apply. Also remember Ahhhhnold got in a more modern Unimog by uprating it to Cali CARB standards, perhaps you would buy his, as it is for sale........

I guess low and slow beats fast and jet.... I guess the pilot could claim the destruction of the F-94 if they were involved in combat when the U.S. pilot stalled and crashed.

IF it is an XM966, gentlemen, he has an important truck historically. However the truck is only worth what one want's to pay for it. One hopes that wisdom will be used to not beat up or change the truck, but as they say on the railroad "money talks and B-------t walks". If...

Another Ahab:
Are you sure the IL-2's is it? I would bet that the C130 has as many or more variants and flying survivors as it is the longest running military production aircraft so far........
Oops, time to break out the humble pie, though the C-130 has been in...

Check your transmission lube oil level, if it gets too low, a Unimog can be a hellish machine to try to shift. Also consider adding some heavy duty manual transmission lube additive if it is low. Sometimes finding the dipstick and the filler can be an adventure.

Wile E. Coyote:
Wild? CCKW? Not if you maintained them, had spare parts, and were willing to accept 25-35 year old technology that could get the job done at very low original acquisition costs. Believe it or not, the Italian State Railways are still using our Ex-US Army...

Which is why I always loved either the M35A2 in Texas or the S404.114 Unimog, neither one requires a CDL for personal use, and they are really good at hauling your stuff as long as you stay under the 26001# CGVW. The next Unimog likely will be the U1300L for the same reason and...

BoA ended up with my house mortgage after two other companies had it and flipped it to them. They are probably the most clueless, greediest bunch of S-B's you can find outside of a middle-eastern bazar souk stall for money lenders, and I ended up having a local bank...

dougimes:
The coolant loss might be a hose or gasket issue, particularly as the old hose clamps work lose over time. But, if it continues I would start watching your exhaust pipe color at the end, as you may be getting a small head gasket leak, or worse, a warped head. This...

OOPs! I posted this one in the Mess Hall, my mistake! You might want to add that unlike a Ford Taurus, A DUKW has a serious blind spot under the bow area that is pretty much invisible to the DUKW's driver. I noticed the large bumper and the modified headlight placements, but...

Also, with the standards set by the camouflage regs, the vehicle's number was not supposed to be visible unless one looked in the cab. Usually the military registrations used to be done in black on the driver and passengers doors down low, so you had to open the doors to...

Better check to see that the V100 left US Government hands legally, otherwise no amount of monkeying around to get a title will extinguish their ownership claims. Remember the demil code changes can sink your regular trucks in a heartbeat, and armor would be subject to it...

Actually except for the lack of ROPS, the M422A1 had a much better suspension in terms of on and off road handling. As to the Unimogs ( almost every variant), they do handle better then the HMMWV on road or cross country, they are stronger in the frames and bodies (closed...

Retiredwarhorses:
Apparently from the photographs the HMMWV soft top vehicles have less roll over protection then even a new Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, and I suspect that the Unlimited costs a lot less per copy..... Another very poor design foisted on the GI's by TACOM or by...

Wow! Now one sees why the HMMWV is not a particularly safe vehicle on the highway. It IS time to fit them with a heavy duty ROPS system, and possibly then scrap them out upon retirement. We are seeing a great similarity to the original Ford M151 1/4 ton utility truck, which...
