It was in response to CSM Davis's post, your comment hadn't popped up yet when I replied haha.
Either flat or a reduced slope like you are talking about would look good in my opinion. The upper section of my hard top has rust issues, typical dent in the middle, and a couple holes in it (front...
Joe (wcuhillbilly) and I talked about the tank size. According to the TM the hydraulic tank is 60 gallons and the passenger side tank is 55 gallons while the driver side tank is 75 gallons. So using the passenger side tank loses about 5 gallons of capacity (potential heat problem like you...
Yea the pics would be good. Save me the possibility of mounting the pedal in the wrong location and having to move it.
That detroit locker is destined for the middle axle after the airbrake conversion is complete. Roll the rear suspension/axles out from under the truck, install the locker and...
There is. Using the wrecker for offroad only recoveries helps keep the cost down with insurance. Then the typical LLC, commercial registration/inspection. My plans to have different bed platforms for the truck (wrecker, 5th wheel, dump, etc) will actually save me some money in that regard as...
Some slope would be fine. I'm just picturing that if the stock slope is continued to the visor then it will be hanging down in front of the windshield, blocking visibility.
Eventually I want to make some money with my m816. Near where I live there a 2 large offroad areas with rock crawling and some mud. There are also a couple rock quarries as well as farmers and construction areas in my immediate area for offroad recoveries. Talked to a few of the wrecker...
With the hydraulic hose replacement this is a low pressure (below 3000psi) system. Most hose places will assume it requires 4000psi rated hose if you just tell them that you need a replacement and that costs much more. I've had good luck with this site before...
What do yall think about adding a second winch to the crane? Noticed on most civi wreckers, especially on the rotators, that they have anywhere from 2-4 winches on the crane. Looks like there is plenty of room to mount one to the underside of the boom past the main winch (in this pic to the left...
Welcome to having a m816. It is a hard working vehicle and extremely versatile.
Grab an air powered grease gun and 5 tubes (yes, 5 tubes) of grease and hit every fitting.
Under the bed is the PTO shaft that powers the crane. It's sitting at a 35 degree angle (very steep) and about 3ft long...
What about keep the a3 and change the gearing for a better top speed? Could either swap the trans or regear the axles? Both are expensive, but cheaper than buying a m923a2
Looks like it's meant to be removed with a specialized puller. Thin jaws that will fit in there.
Couple options I'd try :
1. Take a grinder to a 3 jaw puller and make it able to fit. Apply some heat to the bearing if necessary.
2. Apply heat to the bearing and use a slide hammer (if possible)...
For the drag winch that's a common complaint on the m936 bed. It is the same winch that is on the older wreckers like my m816, but it cannot pull with the same power as the older setup. On the m816 and m543 it's rated at 45k. On the m936 its derated to 30-36k and it's because of how they powered...
I've encountered them mounted at odd angles on civi trucks. If it gives me trouble then it's a simple fix with a piece of angle iron to orient the qr1 with the exhaust down.
Raining all day today so didn't do anything to the truck. Weather permitting will pick up some of the fittings/hoses...
