Yes I'm going with a standard commercial PP8 valve for the parking brakes on the rear axles. Valving on my airbrake setup will be standard commercial parts.
Weather permitting on monday the drivers side front axle will be put back together and maybe the front passenger as well. Then it's break...
Good News Everyone! (who gets the reference? ;) )
Have to buy new wheel studs for both rear axles, about 1" longer. Then to figure out the best way to cut a bevel into the backside of each wheel. Being aluminum it is soft metal so could probably get away with cutting them using a regular drill
With the air system damaged and no functioning brakes a strap won't work to tow the truck off, it'll just roll into the back of the truck you use to drag it off the trailer.
Easiest way is to get a towbar to borrow. Hook up the towbar to both vehicles, inflate the tires, cage the brakes, then...
With the angle you got it down to (23 degrees) it's just about right for the ujoints they use for a tractor PTO. Sucks being the test dummy for this conversion but I'll be following your lead probably next year.
M543a2 the m51a2 dump truck that I parted out is setup identical to Eafarms using the transmission PTO.
Have you tried one of the other neutral positions for the front winch?
Going to need tires very soon as well, which will run between 1000-2000 bucks right there. To get the truck driveable it needs complete fluid change, entire brake system overhaul, hubs serviced. Pretty quick to cost $800 right there. Add in windshield, cab soft top, lightbulbs (not unlikely)...
Ordered up the PP8 (parking brake valve) and a new set of inner axle seals for the front axle. Figured since the front hubs and everything are apart and the old ones leak might as well fix them. Still need to order the R12 and a R14 valves for the brakes along with tubing and fittings.
Also...
According to the TM and in cab plates on road the m818 is rated for 55k (931 should be as well but it's not written in there). That being said the m916 is a better truck for commercial use.
If you will be staying on the pavement and don't need a rear winch save some money and get a m915. 4x6 so...
Didn't know that a 5 ton could go into a shipping container without removing the axles, thats impressive.
For a better parking brake there are 2 options. Either install a pinion brake or convert the truck to air brakes.
Glad to hear that it's a good truck for your uses and has required little...
Pic of the transmission PTO on my wrecker while sitting next to the transfercase. Looked identical to the double sided PTO I pulled off the m51a2
Why my m816 has a double sided transmission PTO I'm not sure but it does have one.
Removing the PTO doesn't take very long. Keep an eye on the...
On my m816 wrecker with the same double sided PTO both shafts always spin together.
With hydraulic spool valves (in general) there is no set position without the fluid flowing.
Which fuel button is in the injection pump varies. Those who have opened their pump have found anywhere from a 18 up to a 31. Same thing with the pressure, it's all over the place.
The NHC250 in my wrecker is an example of one that was turned up. Happily cruises at 2000rpm/55 mph on my 395's...
Going off the video it sounds like it's running fine. Older diesel engines (non common rail fuel injection) are noisy and make alot of clatter. The smoke out of the exhaust when you step on the throttle is a little bit dirty but as you mentioned in another thread that the fuel system in this...
Do you still have your old t138? If so maybe open up the sprag section of it and find out what went wrong. User Simp5782 has welded up a sprag on a t138 before, sure he would be willing to guide you through the process if you are interested. Much cheaper than buying a different tcase and...
A m920 would be great. For me I would leave it's rear winch on and remove the 5th wheel/ramps. Make a couple different platforms that I could pull onto the truck using it's rear winch/tail roller and swap out those platforms as needed (like my idea with moving the 816 rear winch). I can't afford...
Is this the kind of setup you mean (just heavier duty)?
I wonder how bad the leverage would be, making the front end lightweight.
One of the goals would be the ability to tow the box trailers like a m146 or m313/750. To do that there would have to be about 4 1/2 ft of clearance for the...
