    1989 M923A2 MRAP Aluminum Wheels.

For a smooth ride the tires/wheels need to be balanced. A cheap way (what I'm doing on my m816) is to pour some coolant inside the tires to act as the balancing media. 1/2 a gallon in each 395 tire has made a huge improvement on the ride quality. Can't use the standard balancing media (powder...

    Idea for M-1082 RV Conversion

Removing the bed is a good idea. Gets the weight lower, less wind resistance, and easier to climb in/out of the camper. Plus you can more easily mount your water tanks/batteries into the trailer subframe, so the weight is as low as possible while not compromising offroad capability.

    Building an xm381 style bobber

If you were closer I'd buy the m36 bed from you (trailer project) but shipping it halfway across the country is a deal breaker

    Wrecker wishlist of mods

Thats the reason why I'm wondering if it's possible to affordably make the 45k drag winch free spool. Being an m816 everything is PTO powered instead of hydraulic (besides the crane) so kinda limited to electric winches. Unless the Tcase PTO is capable of powering both the crane hydraulic pump...

    Wrecker wishlist of mods

My goal is use of the rear winch with fewer people. The concern with a aux winch (probably go electric with the m816) is the different line speed. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm picturing one winch having to be constantly turned on/off to keep the tension ok without pulling too tight and...

Has anyone found a way to free spool the rear 45k winch?

    8.3 turbo discussion

Going for higher power to play or higher power to work? And what RPM range do you plan to use it at?

809 series has single circuit air assisted hydraulic brakes like the deuce, and the same style parking brake on the back of the transfercase. They don't seem to be as prone to brake issues as the deuce but you need to keep an eye on them.

Thought the m939 A1 and A2 had factory ether for cold starts

M809 series didn't come with the ether setup Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk

Everything else is bigger/heavier. The m809 series has a long nose compared to the m35a2 and the nhc250 is a challenge to start in the cold without a block heater. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk

Same shift pattern. Noise is much lower pitch than the multifuel engine (deep rumble). With the muffler it is quieter Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk

I'm getting just over 6mpg with my m816 wrecker, cruising at 2,000rpm makes a big difference on fuel economy with the nhc250

My 5 ton was making a funny noise and now it won't start....

Use the 813 chassis and make a longer wheelbase tractor.

    turboed 923 A1 ?

Yep, keep the EGT down and the lack of piston squirters is of no issue with adding a turbo. Just don't crank it up around 350+HP or those temps will be too high and melt the pistons Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk

Track width is the same as my front, just as wide as not flipped with the wheel mounted dish out Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk

For the width? With the hubs flipped on the rear axles they are as wide as the front. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk

Running the same Caimen MRAP aluminum wheels. Flipped the rear hubs rather than cut the bevel into the back side of the wheels.

    turboed 923 A1 ?

At my last job one of the trucks I worked on was an older peterbilt with the nhc250 and turbo (altitude kit from Cummins). No piston squirters. Not a 290 or any of the others from the series, a NHC250. Rolled over 1.1 million miles with no major engine work then the customer decided to have it...
