If the hole in the corner of the windshield on the soft top is bothering you too much, stop at an upholstery shop and get a couple of pieces of scrap foam and cut to fit & insert them in the corners. It will keep out drafts and rain, and will be the only place in the cab that...

One of these days I am going to end up with an Army "ST" tugboat, as the Navy YTM ended up reefed in the Great Lakes before I could get a discussion going on price. I regret to say that was the "Seneca" likely the USS Cockenoe at Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941. The...

Metric- invented by the folks who made "Le Car".... If the almighty meant us to use metric, the Model "T" would have been metric... Unfortunately, the Unimog is metric, and it causes no end of aggravation trying to locate bolts of the right grade to do repairs. The deuce was...

Just think of all the S404.114 Unimog parts that $75,000 would buy, and excepting for speed, the Unimog's still a better vehicle. Heck for that kind of scratch, I could get an ultra high speed axled U1300L that would bliow the doors off the HMMWV all around.....

I can't say enough positive about George and Terry Kivett at White Owl, when I owned an M35A2 and M105A2 they were the folks to call for parts you needed yesterday! I only wish they'd a branched out into Unimogs....[thumbzup]

Beyond getting periously close to "political speech", I can see you fellows in NJ have a problem. The problem is that too many unthinking people are damaging the State forests and parks with off road vehicles of every type, and so an administrative solution has been proposed...

If you didn't modify the truck, you have no worries. the truck(s) in question are grandfathered because of the built date and contract design specifications. Additionally they are also covered by the exemptions noted from the U.S.Attorney General due to the only...

Any Good automobile upholstery shop should be able to do the seat covers for you if they can locate the correct material. I suggest Beechwood Canvas or WeeBee webbing as a possible source, as Dave Pizzoferato has restored several M151's....

So we're worrying about putting 10% Ethanol gasoline in what? A Deuce? As long as your gasoline is under 25% of the fuel mixture, and you have added some oil or gear oil to lubricate the injection pump, the problem you anticipate is what, exactly? The deuce was designed to...

Love my Unimog, they may look unstable, but I'll take my 404 over almost anything short of an M35A2, and the Unimog will go where the deuces and jeeps fear to tread....:gimp2:

The black rubber ones will stop your wrecker, as they will stop a 747 from rolling. The Swiss Army used them on my Unimog, and it can get over one with a lot of low gear power applied, but no other way.2cents Central Tractor has them for reasonable.....
Still a very nice truck. There was usually an internally mounted spotlight in the box to serve as a work light for surgery or medical work also..... Gottta love those Jeeps.....:D

FINALLY! A HMMWV that almost equals the original Unimogs in capability....! How many years do you figure it took them to figure this one out? The S404/408's were the first MRAP's when converted by the South African Army as Buffalos back in the 1960-1970 period.....:grd:

I would probably prefer the two lane roads, as 1). they are less used, 2) the speeds are generally lower, 3) there is less time sensitive traffic to deal with, and 4) most of our trucks cannot hold fifty MPH for long without adverse effect. As to the other drivers, you can't...

Dear Bottleworks:
I do not live in North Carolina, thankfully, but I suspect that even a gasoline engined S404.114 would cause problems there for the State as it is over 1 ton as a truck. As regards to trying to help out your fellow man, please remember the old adage...

Here's mine, "Saddam's Nightmare" from 3/3CAV L50 & trailer, which got sold to a gentleman down in Texas, and to say the least, I do miss her greatly!

And don't forget all the locomotives & railway equipment, and the military tugboats and barges, and even the Army FP freighters (like the one on Mr. Roberts, which was built for the Army)............:-D

Just get the reflectorized "Convoy Ahead" sign from Rick Larsen, hang it on the rear and do a sane 50-55 MPH, anything above that and you are cooking the engine... Patracy said it correctly immediately above. If you value your truck you will hold the speed down, if not, trash...

Perversely interesting! Why not just mount a 24VDC landing craft light like the Pittsburgh Railways Interurban PCC's used on the roof? 1 light and you will set trees in fire a half mile away!
