Thanks papabear !
Thanks Tracer. The Federals have Hercules HXD six cylinder gas engines in them, The are 855 ci with twin ignition (two spark plugs per cylinder), have 200 hp and develop 640 ft lbs of torque at 900 rpm. Redline is 1800. While the red one runs good the orange one had two...
Thank you very much to everyone for your votes. We got off to a good start but mkcoen, migginsbros, and suzukovich all came on strong and I was sure one of them would end up winning. Everyone's vehicles were worthy of being MV of the Month, so I feel very fortunate to have won the prize. MVPA...
Right now the plan is just to make this truck mechanically sound and preserve it in its current state. I have another Federal C2 complete with the boom and a much better cab that I plan to do a full restoration on.
I made a video of a ride around the block in the big Federal. The transmission is a 5 speed with overdrive on top. We start out in 2nd and get to 5th pretty quick, as the rear ends are 10:22 to 1. It will pull 10 mph in 4th gear easily, so no need to downshift below 4th. Even in OD I don't...
There are only a few days left and voting is extremely close, which is not surprising with so many excellent candidates. Not matter who wins this has been pretty fun. Thanks very much to everyone who has voted for the Federal so far.

There sure are a lot of cool vehicles (and trailers !) up for the prize this month. I can see a lot of hard work has been put into them. Here is a little information about my 1943 Federal 7-1/2 ton 606, a former Army Air Force C2 wrecker. Unfortunately the Gar Wood US6 wrecker boom was removed...
I put the Federal up for MV of the Month. People are already lining up to vote ! Just kidding, but you can vote at this link if you like.

Someone suggested to me I should submit my 1943 Federal 606, a former C2 7-1/2 ton Army Air Force wrecker before the boom was removed. In addition to the normal electric starter it is also equipped with a hand crank inertia starter.
Thanks, I saw your PM. We were able to find a 5th wheel and ramps last November. What we really need now are some winch parts. I realized last month that we were missing more parts off of our winch than just the spare tire carrier and derrick. We are also missing two of the pulley assemblies. So...
I used KBS Tank Sealer on the 55 gallon tank on my Federal. It is a 3 stage process as you have to clean and etch before applying the sealer. I'm very happy with the results.

I described the process here...
Drove to a local car show last Sunday, won "Best Rat Rod", go figure lol. I didn't see any rat rods there. But they were pretty impressed with the truck and especially the inertia starter so they wanted me to get a prize. People really love this truck. Plans are to bring it to the Vintage...
