That's a hard question to answer. I agree that if you love the truck then you'll regret selling it. I sold my M151 that I had for 20+ years and have a little regret in selling it, but then again after 20 some years I was board with it and wanted a new toy. So if you've gotten board with this...
All the picts I've seen have the trucks painted the 4 color camo pattern in the desert terrain. I have seen some all sand color ie. Gulf War 1 with USMC markings so maybe they painted some of the vehicles all sand.
I bet if we went to the classic chevy forum we might find the same arguement er discussion taking place. There are those who feel that the 55 Chevy should be restored or kept as it was when it left the factory. Then there are the hot rod crowed that feel the 55 Chevy looks best with chromed mag...
Interesting topic. I am on both sides of the fence. I wouldn't think of taking a US6 Studibaker duce from wwII and modifing it if one could find one not already modified for the logging industry or the farm. (Most of these trucks went to the USSR during WWII). On the other hand I have my M37...
I saw the title and I was like why would one want to scratch build a cab for the truck.....Just pull another off the many that are out there...then I read it and realized your not talking about the caB but making a caP or a top. Was a bit confusing to me.
If you want to modernize you can look into getting the board off of troop seats (racks) out of modern MVs they are made out of fiberglass and are very durable.
I saw an Arvoe add that said they had that color....I just don't like Arvoe paint.... I e-mailed Mark at Rapco and he asked for my phone number so he could call me and he never did....:( If I could find something GI that was that color I would take it to my auto paint store and have it color...
You can get a non-runner or maybe kinda runs depending on where, when, and from whom you buy. Price between 500 and 2500. This truck will need a good amount of work to make it road worthy and will not be restored. Then you can get the runs good somewhat road worthy maybe even partially restored...
I stopped using my MVs for SDF work because nobody wanted to take responsibility for the truck when they used it. It was expected that I bring the truck, but no one wanted to help pay for fuel. Nobody would man up when something got broken and offer to help buy the new part and the old army...
I use to towbar my M151 all the time. At one time I had a M1009 CUCV and I would hook the 151 to the back of it and go to show. I never had any issues with it other than if I had to take a trun tightly (like tring to get out of a gas station) that would cause the front wheels to lock and I...
The Studebaker is very rare. It is a 2.5 ton just like the GMC CCKW but we didn't use them all that much. The majority of them were packaged up and shipped to the USSR. So yeah if I was closer and had $500 for it I'd grab it in a NY minute! Someone needs to save that one it's as I said is...
