I have a 14" abrasive cut-off saw made by Milwaukie and it works well for 1/4" thick box wall tubing. Anything thicker and it goes on the hydraulic band saw.

Where was the load in relation to the axle? If behind the axle, the trailer didn't have any tongue weight.
No tongue weight will "wag" a trailer and your Jeep rather well.

Ether is a lot more explosive than Liquid Wrench or WD-40. I'm guessing that the detonation of the fluid isn't nearly as violent as ether.

Power coating small parts is fine, anything that has square corners usually yields thin coating due to Faraday Cage effect. Powder coatings can't be repaired without stripping the old coating and re-coating the entire part.
