I have a composite 353 bed with no tailgate. Its been disassembled for storage and restoration.
Not cheap.... but would be right for up to a late 44 CCKW
Any consideration to not using the highway? Minimum 40mph kills just about everything pre-1960s. Its basically an M35/CUCV thing.. can't get excited about something I don't own.
Small parts.... terminal ends, terminal blocks, windshield parts, motor parts.
Need to find some open cab doors, or I will have to repair mine (typical rust line at the lower channel.
People have a whole truck and think that $$ is in the engine/driveline. Nope, not many people looking for...
Do you have anything in a TM I could read to get more info on your claim? I don't want to misread the word 'spare tire carrier'. Spare as in extra...
So a CCKW, in 6x6 mode, with dual fronts AND these tracks is a dream to drive'? Hmm... I think that you might want to put your CCKW in 6x6 and...
Thats an very early production CCKW. I wish more people would make thier trucks look that good. Notice that the spares were on the front hub... driver probably had to use both hands and a foot to turn that truck.
For more info on the tracks, the Tankograd CCKW book has a few pages on them.
I think this part of the NHTSA is pretty black and white:
Furthermore, because the Safety Act does not regulate sales of vehicles to owners subsequent to the original one, the U.S. armed forces may sell military vehicles to the public at the end of their useful military life without having...
Use a Craigslist search engine like Craiglook. There are at least 3 CCKWs on CL last time I looked. Most don't know if they are 353 or 352s, and ads are mostly miss when it comes to pics... they show the grill like thats the important part.
I lost out on 3 parts trucks recently. Evidently...
PTO drive shafts are also uncommon.. so if you see one in good shape snap it up.
About the only place that I know of that lists gears for trannys/transfers/ptos:

No, the majority did have split (as opposed to banjo) axles. Early in production there was a problem getting enough axles so they used another source and they had the banjo type. In just about every TM they are referred to as split/banjo type. The only Tm that references them any other way...
It appeared that the largest vendor table was airsoft guns, next to the beef jerky guy.
Both jeep vendors told me that they 'packed light' (one said he just threw what he had out in the truck early this morning to get there).
Evidently 20 and 40mm ammo cans are all the rage... must of been 100...
I live just of 81 exit 119 so if you break down or need to park it I have plenty of space. Also have tools (I am restoring a CCKW) so repairs should be doable... I also know the local tow guys (not personally, but their phone #s) should it you need it. There are at least 4 heavy truck shops...
If the GL numbers are still on the truck then I would not pay significantly more than GL prices.
I have been looking and few of the private owners I have spoken with lead me to believe they are doing nothing more than flipping a truck... so now you have the expense of the SF - Title hassle...
TM 10-1281 lists overall length at 108in and 'inside length' of 72, that 36 inches left. Drawbar length is 42.5 in
I can measure my trailer, but I'll buy 36in as the correct amount.
To short a hitch length causes all kinds of problems when turning and tracking.
That looks like its wicked short. IIRC the original tongue and lunette was about 4-5 feet. Don't take sharp turns and maybe it won't hit the tow vehicle.
No disrespect to your efforts, but I don't see much of an improvement. Sorry.
The refit kits came out in July, 1942 so if your truck is a 44 then you would have the production light .
I did error n saying I have the AM that has the refit kit. The July, 1942 issue of AM is the one with all the refit kit info. The article itself is available in "Military Maintenance...
BO driving lights were added as a retrofit to most support vehicles. So, to 'be as correct as possible' you will need to date the trucks assembly (hopefully you have a set of data plates with a DoD). Then its a quick check in Army Motors to see if your truck would have a factory or retrofit...
Go to halftracks.com and see what is priced out there for little more than a chassis. The question is how bad do YOU want it?
Thats a major resto you're looking at... $10k easy (half of that would probably just be engine work) add on to that new tracks, new armor..... is the frame bens? How...
Good luck getting all new stuff. You are entitled to the VALUE of the parts. Not the NEW COST. You could sue the driver directly and not deal with the insurance... but if the driver (or his parents if under 18) has no money that could backfire. Its not like its a just off the lot 2010 Lexus...
