If you want a driver then make sure it drives :) These MVs *ALWAYS* seems to have break issues. Some are simple, some not so much. If you are looking to drive it, buy it for what it is.. a big green truck. You are gonna be the guy putting money and time into it... so if you have the time and...
The CCKWs 2.5 ton rating is its max safe OFFROAD rating.
War Dept Circular 212 dated 20 May 1944 specified a 100% overload (thats 5 tons!) for cargo and a 60% overload for towing on flat, hard surfaced roads.
The snippet (from a 1944 Army Motors) is available here:

I really like the look of the closed cabs... kinda regret not getting one but the open cab has less hassles.
You are missing a letter after the dash. It should be either B, E, or H. Those are the variants that came with a winch from the factory.
Its also cool that you have a bed data...
That's a nice closed cab. Can you post the frame number? It looks like that winch is added on (frame extensions looks odd, as do the front spring hangers) Also your bed does not appear to be WWII manufacturer. Does it have any data plates? Should be on the front drivers side of the bed...
I remember that... the wing root was supply just enough lift to keep it level and the pilot landed with rudders. I recall it was caused by a collision... not enemy fire. Other F-15 driver punched out.
Thats ONE F-15... there were probably more A-10 landing damaged than F-15s.
I lived in Germany when the A-10 was first deployed (the only reason they were built was to counter the soviet tank masses that were always thought to roll through the fulda gap.) The A-10 was really a maverick/bomber delivery system with a BFG. Like the Apache is really a Hellfire system with...
My comment was not directed at the guys getting the proper coverage.
This web site will not allow colluding, but insurance fraud is ok?
In the short and long run all we do is hurt ourselves by insuring or TITLING an MV as anything than what it is.
For all you guys that are (pardon the term) committing fraud and not letting the Ins co know that your truck is a 10,000lb tri axle you know they will not pay for a claim when your 'jeep' is in a wreck, right?
If your ins binder does not have the proper weight, year, axles etc do you really...
I bought a small tub of cosmoline because I heard the same thing... slather it on after part while the parts are still hot.
I'll try it... but I also think, as you said, its a matter of time.
211s and 135s seem to becoming very available. I would balk at the engine swap because now you may be looking at jury rigged alternators, brake lines (I think they are still vacuum assist?), wiring and the like.
I would also TRIPLE check that the bed, troop seats, drivers seats and other parts...
Great work... but from reading your 'wish list' I would caution you about 'over restoring' an MV. Nothing makes me walk past a truck faster than seeing an MV 'restored' to a level it never saw in Military service. Epoxy paint is all the rage in the jeep world now. No way to get a FLAT green...
Stake pocket? That seems like a waste for something as non-critical as a stake pocket. Sandblast that and be done in two minutes. Electrolytic rust removal is more for very odd or delicate parts that would not hold up well to grit blasting. Way to much work for sheet metal. You will still...
The hardest part is the current. You are basically making a dead short, with the only resistance being water and metal (mostly the water).
You can hook up anything you want for DC power, but the current required is directionally proportional to surface area. So a low current and a large...
My composite 353 bed has the same stencil. You can see it here (middle pic.. the white splotch).

I can get the exact text.. I have it stored somewhere but it does say REO and GMC IIRC.
Wood? Are you sure? Is it painted? I would like to see some wood grain or growth rings or something.. looks like a plastic model painted some sort of off white.
It might be wood...
