LOOKING FOR WW II 2 1/2 Ton OWNERS!

Depending on what month your truck is you may have a composite bed. The steel ones did get put back into production to 1945.

    CCKW 353 Airtransportable / Airborne

Any closed cab after 1942 or early 43 is questionable. Closed cab production stopped in late 1942. Can you post a frame SN? Is the original cab data plate still there? You may have a mix master truck. The airborne CCKW is not super rare.. no more than a compressor or water/fuel tanker. The...

    Original Jimmy Hand Crank

The starting starting crank and bracket are kept in the tool compartment (the one in the back of the bed under the tailgate). The TM9 lists part number GM-2147197 for the non-winch crank and GM-2147196 for the winch version. Only difference is the length. Its on page 24 of the 1944 TM9-801

need lots of advice on welders and welding

MIG welding is pretty easy. Doing flat panel FCAW-MIG on thin sheet metal? Hire it out. I disagree about the HF welders... they are pretty highly regarded for the basic/entry level items that they are. A little research will quickly weed out the simple 'I have chineese products' and then...

CCKW D-Day Invasion port shipping stencils

Interesting, what is your source for this number? I find this odd, as not even jeeps came off the production line with MG mounts. Also, since the factory has NO idea where a truck would end up, nor did ORD and later QM plan production that way. I don't think a Divisional QM Truck platoon is...

Trying to get a title for my truck. ARG!!!

Worse comes to worse buy a set of 3/4th in stamps and pound one into a frame rail. Every state has exceptions for antique vehicles... all you need is a frame stamped VIN. Short of finding the original (my be some work, but having a title that has the proper VIN can increase collectors value)...

Trying to get a title for my truck. ARG!!!

Use paint stripper. Paint may have filled in the stamping. You may have to do the whole frame rail from the cab to the bumper... 'behind the drivers front tire' is a starting point.

Found this neat old GMC for sale in PA.

Guy probably thinks the scrap price is $22,000 so for a little more over the scrap price you get a truck! :-P Wonder how bent that frame is, and how shot the drive train is from all that construction work.

    VT to Anneville PA

I'm in Gordon, Exit 119 off 81 so if something goes wrong QUICK you can park it (and I have tools/gantry etc). PM if you want my cell. I work swing shifts, so I will be at work Fri/sat/sun but can talk you to the house and get you to some tools or to park it.

CCKW D-Day Invasion port shipping stencils

Well, they WERE RARE. I found a TO&E for a Regimental Truck platoon. Of the 17 or so trucks, only 4 M2-HBs were allocated. So I *ROUGH* estimate from an early 1943 TO&E for an Infantry Regiment would be 1 in 4. Now a Divisional QM Company has many more tucks (like 30-40) but not a similar...

CCKW D-Day Invasion port shipping stencils

I know little of the closed cabs (since I don't own one) but was the mount a factory option? I read articles about them, but never conclusively discovered if they were a factory applied part. I would think they are not, and a unit would requisition them (as per TO&E) from supply. Since most...

CCKW D-Day Invasion port shipping stencils

About midway through the Tankograd CCKW book there is a good shot of a shipping stencil. It was on the passenger side, just under the half door. Most trucks would NOT come from the USA whole. Either in 1 or 2 up containers to be built at one of the many 'little detroits' in the UK. This is...

Trying to get a title for my truck. ARG!!!

Your frame number may be filled with layers of paint. Its there.... may have to sand the frame a bit (no grinding!). I would also NOT use a data plate. Same reason as an engine number... it can easily be removed. Find the frame number.. you will need it to establish production info and...

How much can I tow ?

I can also get you the skinny from the OFFICIAL GM HISTORIAN. The guy that WORKS at GM... THAT guy. :) Well, at least an article he wrote. If you don't feel safe, then by all means err on the side of caution. but I have had over 2.5 tons in my CCKW (trip to the local dump and a scale...

How much can I tow ?

Saw your post on g503.com... how'd that go for you? hahahahaha Some of those meatheads are good for a laugh, and that's about it. Sorry you had to suffer through the ramblings of Joel Gopan/WWIITRUCK/Ben Dover or whatever his alias of the week is. :cookoo:

Trying to get a title for my truck. ARG!!!

CCKW GMC 270's start with 270... but the 235s in the 1.5 ton Chevys would not. Most GMC will have a data plate on the lower left side (drivers) with a SN, bore, stroke. Its referenced in the TMs and SNL. I would find another smarter DMV minion. You do not want to use something that could...

    Wc/m37 brakes

I wouldn't kill myself hunting for NOS lining... no need and any brake shop will have stock that will fit. Just need to tell the the thickness. Everything else they can get off the old shoe.

How do you get a refund from GL

To the guys who disputed the CC did your account get banned? Dispute = Chargback = TOS violation? There was a recent thread on this very topic (although the other dude simply charged back right away).

    Wc/m37 brakes

Any brake shop should be able to reline them for a few bucks... unless your shoe itself is bad. TM should cover the brake material thickness. Here are the NOS linings: http://www.midwestmil.com/dodgewc16.html scroll down about 1/3rd of the way. I'd call them if you need the entire shoe...
