Any closed cab after 1942 or early 43 is questionable. Closed cab production stopped in late 1942. Can you post a frame SN? Is the original cab data plate still there? You may have a mix master truck.

The TM9 lists part number GM-2147197 for the non-winch crank and GM-2147196 for the winch version.

Worse comes to worse buy a set of 3/4th in stamps and pound one into a frame rail.
Every state has exceptions for antique vehicles... all you need is a frame stamped VIN. Short of finding the original (my be some work, but having a title that has the proper VIN can increase collectors value)...
Use paint stripper. Paint may have filled in the stamping.
You may have to do the whole frame rail from the cab to the bumper... 'behind the drivers front tire' is a starting point.

Well, they WERE RARE. I found a TO&E for a Regimental Truck platoon. Of the 17 or so trucks, only 4 M2-HBs were allocated. So I *ROUGH* estimate from an early 1943 TO&E for an Infantry Regiment would be 1 in 4.

Your frame number may be filled with layers of paint. Its there.... may have to sand the frame a bit (no grinding!).

CCKW GMC 270's start with 270... but the 235s in the 1.5 ton Chevys would not. Most GMC will have a data plate on the lower left side (drivers) with a SN, bore, stroke. Its referenced in the TMs and SNL.

I wouldn't kill myself hunting for NOS lining... no need and any brake shop will have stock that will fit. Just need to tell the the thickness. Everything else they can get off the old shoe.

There was a recent thread on this very topic (although the other dude simply charged back right away).
Any brake shop should be able to reline them for a few bucks... unless your shoe itself is bad. TM should cover the brake material thickness.
