Does it have a WINCH or a ROLLER?
If complete either would be worth something... the rest of the frame not so much.
As for weight, I would say plan about 3-4k or more. I would check for square and straightness.
Gary's Halftrack Parts check here for more info.
Pick up a copy of "GMC A UNIVERSAL TRUCK"
While lite on specifics, it has tons of post war pics (french, swiss, dutch, Israli) and the mods they did to them. The book is not really good for detailed info, and I don't recall any interior shots.. but a good reference as most, if not all the...
Thats a nice 353. I like the look of the closed cabs... they have that passenger truck look to them.
A 43 would have a wooden cargo bed (wooden cargo beds were in production since 1 Sept 1942) and also a wooden steering wheel. But I agree both are hard to find in good condition.
I noticed...
I know describing electrical issues can be a bit tough... but its even harder to help with the target is moving.
..
First you had NO lights, now they were on but dim, then only one was not blinking (hazard?)
1. "one was much dimmer than the other"
2. "No tails now."
3. "LEDS are off the truck...
LEDs by design use milli amps.. so I doubt that the LEDs themselves caused any problems.
You may have grounded something in the process, or miss matched something.
I don't think its anything unique to this setup. My front motorcycle tire cupped (quite common) as did the stock F150 I used to have.
Most tire shops tell you its the tire pressure. I've run my front motorcycle tire at MAX pressure (36PSI) and no cupping this year.
It could be the wired...
I would try harder springs.. maybe some rubber wedges to narrow it down first. Shocks only dampen the oscillations of the springs, changing the rate of the springs wold probably help.
Also try and up the air pressure. Firming up the tire with PSI may take some of the bounce out of the tire.
The winch lever should be just to the left of the shifter. There is a hinged plate on the floor and the lever is a flat bar that comes up about half as high as the shifter.
I had a dump truck that had the PTO lever.. its not a simple affair to add one... lots of brackets are needed. And if...
The interior looks ok-ish. A big area of concern would be the gauges. Also, the picture doesn't really show a winch lever. That would be between the steering wheel and shifter. PTOs and shafts are kinda hard to find.
Open cabs started production in late 42, but closed cabs were produced...
Wow, was the scale in calibration?
Maybe at Raush creek we can get someones duece and put a guy on each corner and see f they are lifting 2000lbs. (500lbs per man). I think it will be more like 200 each.... not a whole heck of a lot.
Unless I had the aluminum version of the bed.
Where is this 2000# lb number coming from? A scale? A book?
Just curious. Like I said, two people had no trouble with a drop side (moving it, lifting it). We didn't pick it up and carrry it, but it was not difficult to move or lift.
Are you including any frame parts?
I just had the...
Most of a duces weight is the axles and frame and engine/tranny/transfer. A single axle has to be about 1000lbs+ complete. the frame is not much, and the bed is sheet steel. A full tire/rim is about 100lbs.
The springs torsion bars etc are all pretty hefty units. But the bed... nothing to it.
Could be nothing more than a Chevy cab on a god-knows-what-frame.
All you can say from one pic is there appears to be Chevy sheet metal. Is it a G-506 series truck? Need more info.
Why don't you pass that used oil through a Frantz filter to get it cleaned?
Or is the mention of a Frantz Filter heresy?
I've read nothing but good things about them.
Don't pay the premium for soda... you want bare steel.
About 2 years ago I got quotes from local guys and even for a tiny GPW frame everyone was north of $500.
I ended up doing it myself.
With the tight times, you may catch a bargain.
