I think the judging is weighted WAY TO HEAVILY in the 'how far did you drive it' category.
if the convention is in your home town you lose big points for something completely out of your control.
I would say 3 for driving, 1 for hauling.
The guy that bought its on this site.. he can back me up. I just about lifted it up by myself. I made a gantry with 4x4 legs and 2 2x10s for a cross bar... it never even creecked or groaned.
When we put it on the trailer we lifted/moved it to place some RR ties under it.
2000lbs? Nope. If...
What are people weighing to get a cargo bed at 2000lbs?
The bed I had (drop side) was at best 14-16 gauge and not much more than sheet steel with flanges.
2000lbs of steel you are talking a lot of some pretty thick steel.
Unless you are also adding in some frame parts?
Unless I had an...
There are quite a few stinkers in the classified section here, too.
Unless its been restored (and I get to see receipts) no way a 70s-80s M35A2 is worth $4k+
Painting over the rust is NOT a new paint job.
Ditto on selling a vehicle without a title.
I live an hour from Mechanicsburg, 20...
I just sold my M35 dropside bed, no troop seats.
If it weighed over 500lb I would be surprised. When I was unbolting the dropside I was able to lift an end and move it myself. I built a wooden gantry and the thing didn't flex one bit.
Since the MVPA is all about restoration, as mentioned earlier the SS award should be about seat time. Remember the P stands for PRESERVATION. Not driving.
The MVPA in the past has tried to award members for miles driven by awarding patches for member going to sponsored events. I think it...
His BIO also points out that he supports rail.
That is a clue to his thinking.. why does ANYONE need a vehicle... ride the train!
Trains are good for cargo, but AMTRACK is a huge money pit that deserves to die... yet this guy supports it 100%.
The MVPA is a JEEP CLUB. The only judging standards they have are for Willys and GPWs. So you will have a lot of jeep snobs there that will think that actually DRIVING an MV is pure lunacy. I think that any support of the MVPA is a waste becuase of the past and present issues with the...
I have an open cab, running (Strong runner) rebuilt hydrovac (just last year) and 10 tires in excellent condition.
Has a composite cargo bed, spare tire carrier and new canvas for the top/rear.
It needs to be repainted (it was a fire truck) and the bed needs restored (new wood and a tailgate)...
ArmyCarsUSA is in Spooner WI and they have a TON or MVs that are rare and driven daily. There is also a huge annual get together.
I would contact them to let them know (they probably already know) but they have a very vested interest.
IF it has the right parts then its a good deal.
Most large antique MVs are missing the bed. So having a good, complete bed is sometimes the only reason to buy a truck. For others its the doors, or rims, or electrical bits....
So you should feel around and look at other M135 projects on the...
In PA if the plates are antique /historic then you MUST have restored the vehicle to the original condition. They DO ask for photos when you apply for historic plates.
So I know from my 42 GPW that military markings are not a big deal. Granted I do not have 'US ARMY' or 'Official Use Only' on...
I don't think many of you have read about the 'service' than an eastern surp. truck gets.
At what point is a 'good going over' and a filter change worth $6000+?
Are they rebuilding the turbo? Packing bearings? Swapping out old parts for new?
NO.
Read the site. Filter and fluid change. I...
I have a take off flywheel with the clutch assy still on it. Should be able to reline the clutch pads.
Let me know if interested.
I am also parting out a 353 dump.
I just looked through my pictures and I do have a pic of the 352 carrier, but its only a corner (like I said I really was only looking for 353 open cab stuff. I do remember there was a tire mounted on it, but how complete is was I could not tell you. I do know that the one tire looked to be...
