Agreed! Kinda like me with a couple of Army trucks and being in the Navy. Funny how that works. Our little gray cruise ships just don't seem to show up at the auctions. :)

Welcome to the Outfit!
Time to Hit The Books and learn about your new-to-you machine.
There is one book - a driver's training guide linked below.

Then the Operator's Manual (also known as the dash ten)...

The ABN looks similar to my MAC Tools kit from 40 years ago.
Except that we were smart enough not to hit our hands with the version from back then. :)

Exhaust leak is a possibility too. On a cold manifold, freshly started truck - spray bottle of soapy water. If you have an exhaust leak you should see it immediately. Don't be stingy with the Dawn dish soap. Even down below since you mentioned "ticking" and any pipe connection down there -...

Interesting.
I thought REO had that "body shape" and that those trucks made like that were only built by REO or Diamond (hence the Diamond Reo naming at one point in time. Yeah, I know there was a war and that anybody who could build something reliably and read a blueprint was...
Some nylon washers would be really good. The nylon would keep the dis-similar metals apart except where the bolt touches the aluminum - and if you were careful - even that could be avoided...
.
Now if you could just supply me with a free half track, I would gladly figure out how to attach the hook latch springs. And I will take really good care of it. It will fit onto my trailer with room to spare.
.
As long as you have "cracked the books" and use what you have learned there - the guys will be happy to help. After all, that is the real purpose of this site.

Grease on the cable that runs inside the sleeve will definitely help. Want to test that theory without spending any money? Disconnect the "high side" of the cable up at the speedometer and spray WD40 (or your favorite penetrating oil) into the cable and in a few minutes of run time - Presto...

Story Time with Tim
So our shop is next door to a single engine firehouse. They were here back in the early 1900's and when we moved in in 1968 - as a kid I spent a lot of time next door. I learned a lot about fire trucks and how they responded to alarms. Got to enjoy sitting in the TV...

Be first this month... The new contest is already up. Don't be bashful. Picture and be ready to campaign on the 15th of the month with more pictures and a story. Maybe a puppy, kid, or a cat in your pictures ;-)

@G744 and @Floridianson are dead on the money! You need more information before you jump in and "just fix" the air chambers on any air brake system.
First of all : Think Before You Die. There is a spring behind the outward facing "cap" on the air chamber. That chunk of aluminum will...

Omni Glass is a good outfit. I ordered a new windshield for my M1088 and it arrived on my dock (at work) in about a week. I don't remember the pain when I paid for it and their crate was FIRST CLASS when it arrived.

@kendelrio , I had to go back and read your post again. I kept thinking that if Sherwin-Williams (and you) are calling that truck color a "perfect match" then those folks must be related to the Weather Forecasters. Like I said, read it again and finally noticed the rims and accents (Bling!)...

Ooops. I missed that little KM below the odometer.
Makes a lot more sense.
The vintage diesel clusters that I posted really are MPH though I question the need for a 140 speedo. It was what it had, so I didn't question why.

Yes sir. lacquer thinner works just fine with RapCo paint. You could also bump Chucky (another member on here) and get his opinion and cut rate. He is a "yard painter" like me - but up in Tennessee.
.
I have used Xylene and have used plain old Lacquer Thinner. I'v had no problem with the finish (shine) on my projects. A fiend of mine @chucky ,sprayed about 7 gallons of RapCo and his truck has nearly no shine at all. A normal "Cut" rate is about 25%. Depends on you and your gun too and...
