I have seen three main causes of the light panel not working:
1) bad solder connections on the relay panel.
2) wires disconnected on the relay panel when they removed stuff they weren't going to surplus
3) bad light panel
I am sure there are other reasons. These are just the three I have...
I agree with previous posters. A cutting disk or torch is your friend. When I got my parts truck the military had started removing the bed and a lot of the bolts were already torched off. I continued the trend and torched the rest off. It was quick and easy. The 5-tons are a bit trickier with...
Have a puzzling door handle issue I can't figure out. My 2004 M1083A1 has the pull-down style handles so the "left" handle is on the passenger door. **** thing hasn't worked since I got it and I suspect it was at least part of why this truck was surplussed. The trip was broken when it got here...
It is from a newer style Oshkosh M1078A1. Possibly an A1P2. The stowage doors are for the drop-down side panels when you remove them to use the bed as a flatbed.
The sling supports are heavy and don't add a lot of value if you are going to use the bed on a trailer. I have seen people remove...
The FMTV was designed to use the M66 turret as a direct drop-in or a HMMWV/MRAP turret (which is a bit smaller) with an adapter kit. The M66's are Vietnam era, heavier, stiffer bearing, and don't have a door that closes and seals. There is a canvas cover for them, but they still leak pretty bad...
Unfortunately, I don't have a design file for the adapter ring. I took my turret cover and the geared ring down to a local machine shop with a CNC plasma cutter. They used the turret cover to get the OD and the bolt pattern to mount it to the cab and the geared ring for the ID and the bolt...
Just installed a set of NIB MRAP seats into the M1083. They sit too high with the MRAP mounting bracket, but with that bracket removed and a 1/4" adapter plate they work really well. The only real downside is they are pretty heavy (and a pain to get into the cab) with the under seat armor.
I...
Unfortunately, I really suck at taking pictures during a build. I always plan on it and my hand are greasy so I defer it, or I just plain forget. Heck, I did the full M1088A1 to M1083A1 conversion and only got about 5 pictures.
I can post pictures of everything now that it is mostly done, but...
I spent most of yesterday finishing up the install of one of the winches on a M1083A1. it is possible to do it with the transmission still in the truck, but it is a real pain. The rest of the install is a lot of heavy lifting, but not overly complicated if you have all the parts.
If you have the B-kit installed and roll on the side, you are pretty much screwed unless you have a turret. The B-kit windshields are at least 2" and the side windows don't open.
Interesting note on the lights: Front turn signals, tail lights, and marker lights were all LED. Backup light and headlights were standard.
Didn't get pictures, but there were two pretty heavy counterweights in the back of the truck between the bed and frame rails to keep it from going over on...
Scott is correct. The LTAS cab is lightly armored and the glass is standard automotive glass. If you are expecting heavier fire, you need to bolt on the B-kit which includes armored windows. Troops in the back have no additional cover. There were some armored gun boxes made, but my understanding...
