Hello Seco parts....would you be able to say what happened to to ferrets you had?....did they all get scrapped?....sad looking back at my old photos....now i can tell you some of them had modifications that show they had some history.....service in Egypt and or Greece....a loss anyway you look...
Great you have a titled unimog...i have the orignal german title for mine....but here where i live they will not issue me an ohio title....thats ok...im not going to drive it on a main road and i like keeping the original paper title which i would have to surrender...take care all....David
Absolutely fabulous....great to hear the news....great to get them running good....happy you got an old thread going again...good to talk with all of you....love it....not many 404 owners out there....chatting.
Hello...my frame number is stamped just under the right front shock....and on the id tag under the hood...dont know what state you live in but it seems like its getting harder to title mv,s...these days???
Hello johan....glad you didnt find anymore spiders....you dont need those breeding and spreading all over your place...sounds like you are comimg along nicely with the brakes....are you also going to use silicone brake fluid?
Tips on cleaning carb jets....jets are made of brass....i have found that soaking them in vinegar is good....its nice to have very small gauge wire to run through the holes....old timers like me say...Dont use a tortch cleaner...or a drill bit....Dont want to enlarge the orface....just make sure...
I use sta-bil buts says it only for 6 months....and some carb cleaner....i know how our gasoline is junk...it will evaporate and leave a grey powder in carbs or over time turn to varnish and is nasty to clean...i dont use my mog much but try and run it once a month....your right ....hello....thanks
Hello mog404....i too have a 1963. 404.1 have the same problem from time to time....there are many great points in this thread....i always start by cleaning the carb jets....if the idle jets are clogged it wont idle unless you give it some choke....try cleaning the carb first...let me know...
Just remember boys and girls..anything can be repaired....just put your mind to it....dont be afraid to rip into it...but a manual helps...best to ya..
Also be looking for c-clips or snap rings that have come out of place......im not sure how your gear box is constructed but many use these to hold gears and bearings in place....either way the box probly has to be removed to repair...
Im not an expert...and i dont know if your gear box has a bottom plate or pan that you can remove...but i would be looking for parts and pieces of some spacers or shims down in the bottom of the case that failed.....
Well got the gas to it today.....took a little while to get it to the carb....theres a primer lever on the fuel pump but on a ferret you just cant reach it....she fired up.....ran a while....no leaks so far.....will run several times and keep checking....then ready to button it up and reinstall...
Hey guys and gals here is what not to do with your unimog......found this photo on the net....i dont know the story but this looks bad to me.......poor old 4 door!!! Hope no one was hurt.
Hello Pohl.....the bed does have 4 crank up hooks ....and the center tube with very large tow bar.....when i got it, it also had a small voltage regulator and wires running back to the bed......there was also a buzzer box under the dash....i think it was a signal device from the "sonder koffer"...
