Welcome to Steel Soldiers! Very nice truck! Glad to see you guys loving and enjoying the old girl; these trucks truly are like people in kind of a weird way, imagine the stories they could tell if they could talk!
Well, that one didn't pan out. BUT...I already found another. Ad claims it's a '79, though the bed doesn't look to be a dropside. Also has more of a Vietnam era paint scheme, the clay looking brown/almost red. Guy was going to bob it but never did, but it appears to come with four newer...
That is AWESOME!! Glad to see you got it and not someone who would part it out; it looks too complete for that. Looks like it didn't come home under its own power; does it currently run/drive but you had it delivered for peace of mind, or does it need some mechanical help to get back on the...
Oh, hey, Rosco, hello from Fairbanks! Funny I should see another member in this area, I'm going to look at an M35A2 this weekend, may pull the trigger if I can find a place to park it. Let me know if you ever want to get together.
One step closer, got directions to go look at the thing sometime. Also talked with DMV in my state to get answers to some titling questions I had. (It's actually easier than I thought to register a vehicle in this state!).
Now to find a place to park the thing...
As far as Alaska winters, I wouldn't be driving it THIS winter; it will sit. Though part of the go look at it situation is that I need to do so before major freeze up, the truck has a block heater but is too far from the owner's house for an extension cord to reach, of course I need to see it...
Like the title says, I'm probably going to go look at a 1968 M35A2 in the next week or two. I'm admittedly a little on the excited side, but also on the slightly terrified side, "What am I getting myself into?"
Some backstory:
-I'm presently a college freshman who spent his high school...
Best of luck! I'll be following this thread as a mechanically ignorant newbie myself who doesn't drive yet who is looking at picking up a '68 M35A2 as a first, project vehicle.
Well, it's happened AGAIN. (Quote NPR's CarTalk.) The previous one never panned out. I'm looking at ANOTHER one though as of now. This one is also a 1968 and appears to be in decent condition; some rust but I've seen far, far, far worse in person. It does have a clean title, a plus of...
But where does my private use fall CDL-wise with the 809 series trucks' non-full-air brakes?
As for block heaters, glad to know! At one point it looked like I might be living off-grid off a generator and solar, and daily driving a '68 M35A2. Glad to know other options besides the standard...
