The cheapie clear filter would show the retaining ring failure. It wouldn't help anything except keeping the debris out of your clean fuel tank. You could also remove the top of the IP and look.
Why did the IP fail with such low mileage ? The truck is probably a 1985 or older model. 1986...
If the ball is missing the injector pump was probably failing and someone removed it. I would change the check valve and see or just install a clear fuel filter in the return line right there and see if it fills up with debris. I need to replace the pump on my one M1010 also for the same...
They are metric. I think the GM ones are stamped 9.8 If you get GM starter bolts you will need to add a washer to them. I had the joy of removing a broken starter bolt just yesterday.
Thanks for all the positive comments. I'm not sure what the note said on the steering wheel the pictures without the snow were GL auction pics. My Father recovered it for me he must have pulled it off. Now I need some time to work on it. Hopefully next week.
I would rather see a M1009 with the right wheel also. Not a rally wheel. The pictures below show rally wheels without trim and with. The M1009 did not have these from the factory.
Here are some pics of my new project. M1031 not a M1028A1. It is a 1031 cab and chasis that got the old M887 CMV bed rather than the PTO powered generator. The usual dents and dings but not all rusty.
The "correct" wheel is kind of an odd ball. It is just a plain wheel but it is 8" wide. Most plain wheels of that era are only 7" wide.
I think those measurements are right.
The rally wheel is the right width but it is a different design. I have some rallys on my M1009 right now because...
If you aren't worried about being visually correct any 1/2 ton 4X4 from 73 to 87 (up to 91 on Blazers and 1/2 ton Suburbans) should work. The newer 1/2 tons have the same bolt pattern but the center hole is smaller, the lug holes are larger, and the offset is different. I would avoid those...
I purchased a Mr Gasket green diesel pump in May 2009 and installed it. It failed in December 2009. Another Chinese piece of garbage with what seems like and American name on it. It cost $ 60.00 but hey at least it made it past the 90 day warranty.
The sticker is normally on the driver side inner fender well or the glove box. depends on the year. Early models on the inner fender later models on the glove box.
I can't say on this one. I have had extended glow times and constant cycle high freq on off cycles. I always caught them before glow plug damage occured. I guess that is why most CUCVs have a couple of things hanging under the dash a starter relay (a whole other topic) and the glow plug card...
