Look under your intake manifold and see if there is fluid in the valley. Sounds like the injector pump might be leaking. Once you get the air out it's fine, but after sitting it builds up more air. My 1009 did that and it got worse til I got the IP rebuilt.
If it's the original radiator, you'd be better off getting it repaired as the replacements are thinner construction. Also repair is much cheaper then replacing.
If you do try that method, I'd replace the radiator cap afterwards. Don't see how that could be good on the seals. It probably won't hurt it, but rather safe then sorry.
Pressure tester can pump 15 psi into it. Check all your clamps, sometimes the just need to be re-snugged. Also check the thermostat housing, I got one that's leaking a little there under pressure. I run the Zerek heavy duty coolant in all my diesels, it's nice because if there is a leak, it...

To start with, for your fuel losing prime, the two lines coming off the filter housing. They will be on the driver's side of the housing towards the top. I do believe the short one is 3/8 and the long one is 5/16, but don't quote me on that. Look at the larger diameter hose from the filter...
