All the stuff I did to my deuce, right here

Thanks for the link! I already have 2 of the Grizzly lockers in my axles; going to do the third soon!

    MEP-004a starting problem

The diagram on P 343 is just a functional diagram; while it will help you understand how things are wired, it won't tell you where things are located, or even necessarily list all of the components. I would suggest familiarizing yourself with the schematic on p. 345 You didn't mention if you...

    MEP-004a starting problem

PeterD answered most of your questions, but I'll see if I can add a little insight! The "click" you are hearing near the day tank is the solenoid in line between the fuel pumps and the day tank. It is controlled by a float switch inside the day tank. Based on your description, its operation...

re-wiring my MEP-004a for different voltages, including single phase

-002 and -003 are selectable between single and 3 phase with one switch; its a pretty neat feature! It isn't an efficiency issue; it is the limit of how much current each individual winding can carry. When pulling single phase off of a wye (3 phase) configured machine, you are pulling more...

re-wiring my MEP-004a for different voltages, including single phase

I'd guess that something isn't working in the field flash circuitry. A relay, or maybe even one of the gangs on the start switch.

MEP-002A engine on a log splitter

That's a good idea! And...it happens to be one that is already incorporated into the splitter! The axles are located with some bars with multiple mounting holes, so they can be dropped down so the bottom of the engine is roughly 18 inches off of the ground. I can drop the tongue clear down to...

MEP-002A engine on a log splitter

Thanks for the  I still split the majority of my wood by hand...mostly because it is faster! But, when I run into a knot or piece of wood that requires more than 2 or 3 swings (or a wedge) to split then I will run it through the splitter. I suspect that, as I get older, I will be...

MEP-002A engine on a log splitter

Thanks! It may not show in the video, but I always wear the little foamy ear plugs when I'm cutting/splitting wood. I am considering some kind of a log lift for the splitter; as it is right now, I either have to lift the logs up myself, or sue the tractor and pallet forks. It would be much...

All the stuff I did to my deuce, right here

I had a large hemlock tree that blew down during a storm a couple of weeks ago; It came down across my creek and blocked an easement that a logging company has on my property. I wanted to turn it into firewood before the logging company destroyed it with a trackhoe! I got the chance to use the...

MEP-002A engine on a log splitter

I had a large hemlock tree blow down during a storm about a week ago. The tree came down across a creek on my property and blocked an access road easement for a local logging company. So, I turned the tree into firewood! Over 4 cords of wood from one tree! The splitter has run through dozens...

    help with basic problems

Both good points; at the factory tie rod location, you need roughly 9" of travel.

    help with basic problems

What is important is the ID of the cylinder; subtract roughly 1/2" from the OD measurement. (Not sure what the 2.5" measurement is that you took).

    help with basic problems

My ram is held into place with the 2 clamps; even if they somehow loosen up the welded ports on the ram would prevent any movement. The bolts from those clamps go into a thick piece of flat bar that is welded to the differential housing on one side, and the piece of 1.75"x1/4" DOM tubing that...

    help with basic problems

I've only wrenched on a few A2's, but every one has started easily even in cold weather. I have started mine when it was about 10 degrees below freezing, with no starting fluid or flame heater. I'm with gimpyrobb on this one; sounds like an IP issue. Here's a video of a cold start on my deuce:

    help with basic problems

I'm all for hydraulic steering...have been running it on my own deuce for a while now. But, I would SERIOUSLY consider re-working those hydraulic rams on your truck. The tabs look like they are of insufficient size, thickness, and are not properly welded. The forces present on those tabs...

    hydraulic power steering kit

When I installed the 5 ton pump in my truck, it appeared that it was just a standard Vickers SAE-A hydraulic pump. A person could buy the 5 ton setup (just to get the timing gear adapter) and then swap whatever pump he wanted on there. With some shroud trimming, I believe that pumps could even...

All the stuff I did to my deuce, right here

Yep; that was a massive hole. Nobody made it through there. The mud was probably about 5' deep. The pic is a little deceiving though; the angle of the camera makes it look look like 90% of the jeep is buried, but really it wasn't THAT bad...

All the stuff I did to my deuce, right here

Got back from mudfest early this morning...I was in the driver seat of my Deuce from about 5:00AM until about midnight, with a few hours of short breaks. The deuce worked great! About 400 road miles and 8 hours of off-road driving over 2 days and zero problems! The new lockers worked wonders...
