Denton NC MV & Surplus Show 14-16 April 2016

The 755 Dollar M54A2 Five Ton

Good score! The 673 is a excellent powerplant for the M39 series trucks, they don't have the power band of the later "high torque rise" Macks, but they will still out pull almost every other 5 ton, reguardless of series. Hopefully all you will need is a filter change, the Napa numbers for the...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

I installed the new winch driveshaft and fabricated and new stack exhaust for the M54A1,converting it back to stock configuration. For future reference, the yoke that attaches to the winch (shear pin end) is no longer available in the civilian market,I had to modify the 3 I got to make them...

    Ship's engineer M54A1 crash-course.

Well, there are actually lots of differences between the early and late style engines, but i'll condense it here..... The earliest engines(FSN 2815-980-7092) Had 9/16 cylinder head studs,5 ring pistons, and had metal bearings in the injection pump governer. FSN 2815-087-2273 engines had 4 ring...

    Ship's engineer M54A1 crash-course.

Definetly a ENDT 673 Mack,I cannot tell from the pictures if it is an early or late production engine though. If it is slipping out of 5th gear, could be worn synchros, worn gears,or worn shift forks,or combination of the 3.

Saying Farewell to an Old Friend

I feel your pain Kenny, having said goodbye to Oddball several weeks ago,I still find myself looking in the backyard for it. Most likely I'll be seeing the Goat and Mack powered M54 leave here in the next few weeks. But,unfortunately, hard decisions have to be made at times, especially when big...

Plus I had to have the current one re yoked at the winch end,all in all,$1000 for 2 new driveshafts and 1 repair. Next week is order 770 feet of 5/8 6 x 19 wire...

    Ship's engineer M54A1 crash-course.

Your filter numbers are as follows(these are all WIX numbers, most any good parts house can cross them over) Primary fuel (on frame under the drivers side fender) (long filter housing) 33511 (short filter housing) 33080 Secondary fuel (mounted on the engine just above the injection pump) 33090...
