MEP-003A with PLC controlled auto start

That would be fairly easy to program into the PLC; the possibilities for automation are nearly limitless. You could make the generator start up under just about any kind of input...weather (rain, wind, how bright the sun is shining, etc.), when a load switches on (as you were describing with...

MEP-003A with PLC controlled auto start

Ladder logic is easier than you think...I figured my first program out with zero help, prior experience, etc. The cost of the PLC and housing is less than $100; and the options for programming are unlimited. The software is free from the manufacturer. I would me more than willing to email my...

Why is taking 12v from one batt bad?

I run a battery equalizer in my deuce; here's a link to the thread. It's about halfway down page 1: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/deuce-modification-hot-rodding/55511-all-stuff-i-did-my-deuce-right-here.html

Why is taking 12v from one batt bad?

? Not quite... 30amp=3000W ONLY if the voltage is exactly 100v; this isn't a standard voltage for anything... Power(watts)=I(current) x V(Voltage) or for an AC system: Power(watts)=I(current) x V(Voltage) x Power Factor What you are describing is a 12v to 120v inverter...something totally...

    new to me generator

I get my unblended fuel from my local Pacific Pride station; I live in OR though...I know that WA doesn't have the marine exemption that OR does. Check a couple of your local stations out...might be worth getting an account.

MEP004a runs and produces power but all gauges read zero

OK...so I actually had a bad voltmeter, a bad frequency meter, and a bad main circuit breaker...didn't really expect that many separate problems, but at least it wasn't complicated. Spare parts installed, load test later today...

    Blew up my new MEP-005a!

Decided to fire it up long enough to test the electrical side of things. Figured the engine was done for anyway, so I let her rip. Aside from the loud knocking and running on 5 cylinders, everything else checked out OK; in fact, I even was able to get about 25kW out of it before the engine...

    Blew up my new MEP-005a!

I actually seriously thought about using some kind of an oil pump in line with the remote oil filter on these sets to prelube...could have saved a perfectly good -005 in this case. It would be easy with the -004 and -005 because of the remote filter cannister. I typically crank a set for...

    Blew up my new MEP-005a!

One of the sets I picked up from Ft. Lewis was this really nice, low hour -005a, with ASK. I spent my normal few hours running through everything, changing filters, purging fuel lines, etc. She fired right up, came up to 50Hz, oil pressure came up within about 3 or 4 seconds, and I thought...

MEP004a runs and produces power but all gauges read zero

The field is flashed during the startup process by the start/run/stop switch. This set is actually producing power; I just can't close the main breaker and the AC meters read zero...hoping there is a single fault causing all of the problems. I will dive into it tonight...just hoping to...

MEP004a runs and produces power but all gauges read zero

So...just picked up one of the MEP-004a's that I won at last weeks auction at Ft. Lewis; spent the morning purging the fuel system, changing filters, oil, etc. I hit the starter and she started right up within a few seconds! All of the engine systems gauges work fine; coolant temp, oil...

All the stuff I did to my deuce, right here

This IS a REAL steal! Those winches are listed anywhere from $2100 to $4700, depending on included accessories...at $400 you found a deal no matter what it came with! The entire winch is set up is built more rugged that their Premium, Performance, and Heavyweight series...a buddy of mine works...

All the stuff I did to my deuce, right here

Electric winch install Finally got around to taking a few pics of my bed mounted winch; it is a Warn 18 series 24v 18,000lb (conservatively rated) electric winch. I made up plates out of 3/8" plate and welded them to the framerails. The winch is bolted to the plate with 8 grade 8 fasteners on...

    Load test of an MEP006a

My thoughts too; where else can you get such a rugged set for such a great price? Obviously overbuilt...they have no problem hacking huge surges, overloads, etc. And, they are easy to repair too...simple straightforward design.

    Load test of an MEP006a

Thought I would share a video of a load test I recently did non one of my MEP006's. Nothing spectacular about it; just a few transitions from no load to 100% load, testing individual cables for current, etc. I had been load testing my generators by hooking them up to my shop and turning on...

All the stuff I did to my deuce, right here

Here is a link to the one I used: AEM HD Water/Methanol Injection Kit with 5-Gallon Tank But...that one is 12v too. If you look back through my build, you'll see where I put in a battery equalizer and a couple of fuse panels for a 12v system.

    Insurance problem!!!!!!!!!!!

Not trying to make any judgements here, but what happens if you get into an accident and your insurance refuses to pay out because you didn't disclose all of the information about your vehicle? Maybe your vehicles are mostly stock (I don't know), but it sounds like you are advocating...

    Insurance problem!!!!!!!!!!!

Agreed; the "modified" issue was my problem with both SF and CalCas; I was upfront about my deuce when I tried to insure it...State Farm told me that they would cover it if it was unmodified, but they don't insure "modified" vehicles. I did ask her where the line was between modified and...

    Insurance problem!!!!!!!!!!!

I got the same story when I tried to insure mine through state farm, and again through California Casualty... I currently have my M35A2 insured through Progressive, liability only, for $8/month (I also have my boat insured through them as well; couldn't insure IT through State Farm or CalCas...

All the stuff I did to my deuce, right here

Hey no problem! I always appreciate input. That's why this thread is here! I'm a firm believer that a US flag flown with respect ANYWHERE on a vehicle is a great thing and the person doing it should be applauded...we'll discuss the location required by code in the other thread
