MEP-003A with PLC controlled auto start

This one here: SG2-12HR-D Also got the enclosure: ICB-0465 I plan on using the same setup in a few weeks on an MEP-004a that I am putting together

Starting surges and overload testing my 006a with video

I am putting one of my MEP-006a generators up for sale; I thoroughly test them before selling them. Thought I would throw together a condensed video of the testing that I do. The video demonstrates a cold start, warmup, stepped load test (0-60 kW in 10 kW increments followed by several hours...

    Bobber 20K PTO Rear Winch

Looks like it fits nicely! Makes the 18k lb winch under the bed of my deuce look like a toy. Keep the pics coming; I'm really interested in how this turn out!

All the stuff I did to my deuce, right here

Kid has a soccer game...and then I'll be brewing beer for a few hours  I'll make it up there one of these days...

All the stuff I did to my deuce, right here

Yep; they shot that video at this location, on the day after the event. That's why the Warn stickers are all over the truck... I have several minutes of raw footage of some 6 wheel drifts that I haven't uploaded. I'll get around to it one of these days.

All the stuff I did to my deuce, right here

I have a couple of projects in mind for the Deuce this winter...until those get underway, I thought I would keep this build alive with a short video clip from Mudfest earlier this year. The driveway and parking lot were so muddy that almost every vehicle entering had to be towed into the...

Welding using the deuce as a power supply

I carry a few sticks of 1/8" 6011 rod. Its a good all-purpose rod that works with DC. You do need to protect it from getting wet.

Welding using the deuce as a power supply

Correct...I use this as a trail repair method, and NOT as my primary welder! I abused the crap out of a pair of yellow top Optima's in a Suzuki Samurai I used to have for about 5 years; over 10lbs of flux core welding wire through the ready welder on it, probably close to 50 sticks of welding...

Welding using the deuce as a power supply

I have no certifications related to welding...but I have been welding for a little over 25 years (since I was 10). I currently have 2 MIG welders, 1 TIG, my ready welder, and Oxy-fuel. I do weld at least once a week; I have scratch built several trailers, bumpers, rollcages, etc. I built the...

Welding using the deuce as a power supply

Hot metal and sparks...leather gloves have almost no electrical insulating properties. Welding occurs at relatively low voltage (24 in this case) and that voltage doesn't pose an electrocution risk

Welding using the deuce as a power supply

Excellent! That is exactly what I was hoping for in this thread

Welding using the deuce as a power supply

The ready welder is a great tool...I've owned one for about 8 years. I find that I use it more as a spoolgun for welding aluminum with my MIG welder than on the trail. Unless you're carrying a bottle of shielding gas, you're just using it as a flux core wire feeder. While it is a little...

Welding using the deuce as a power supply

I've used the deuce a few times now to do some impromptu welding outside of my shop...works pretty good. Threw together a short video of me stick welding some scrap together using the deuce and a set of jumper cables:

    Auto Start for MEP-003a

I realize this thread is a little old, but the answer is yes, and here is a link to my build: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/auxillary-equipment/72722-mep-003a-plc-controlled-auto-start.html

    Blew up my new MEP-005a!

Its too late now, anyway...several of the parts went to my many -004's to get them running. I seriously thought about trying to repair it, but at a minimum I would have needed machine work on the head, new valve, top end gasket set, new piston/rings/bearings/connecting rod, and even then I...

    Blew up my new MEP-005a!

I was planning on selling what parts I didn't need for just above their scrap value...while I'm more than willing to palletize this thing and send it your way, I'm guessing that freight is going to kill any deal that far away. Don't want to depart too far from the forum rules, so I'll start a...

    Blew up my new MEP-005a!

I got a chance to strip the set down this afternoon...found a 3/8"x1" bolt lodged in the intake valve of #3 cylinder. %^&*$!!aua Valve is bent, seat is damaged, the piston is damaged, and the connecting rod is bent. Not worth fixing. Spare parts, now. So...the set was probably just fine...

Startup, operation, and load test of MEP-004a

I read through your other post; congratulations on being the prepared guy during the hurricane, and not the guy who needs to mooch off of his neighbors...

Startup, operation, and load test of MEP-004a

I recently put one of my -004's up for sale; I shot a short video of it being tested under load. Though you guys might like to see it here...maybe it will come in handy for somebody who is working on their own -004a?

    MEP003 siezed up

Agreed; this is a definite possibility. When you pull the injectors/glow plugs to put the MMO in, try turning it over. You may find that one of the cylinders is full of fuel, water, or something else...
