Cracked frame at the steering box, again. More reinforcement. Ultimate fix will be conversion to hydrostatic steering, next time I have $1600 laying around :)
Hoops + longer shocks + limit straps are on the to-do-soon list :) First is the weld-on frame reinforcement kit from ORD. I have the brace, but the frame cracked anyway, so will add the reinforcing.
The truck presently has a 4" skyjacker lift, but it seems more like 6" to me. I'll be taking 2...
OK, not to hijack the thread, my answer to the OP has changed to: yes, its worthwhile to install a rollbar/cage. You see, I am willing to change my position if presented with a good argument :)
I'll plan for a "family" roll cage to also protect rear passengers then compensate by taking out 2"...
Yeah, sorry about the video quality, it was a spontaneous effort by one of the guys with a cell phone. The other vehicles took the bypass, looked too easy to me, so I headed up "The Chute". When the others saw what I was doing, one ran over to spot and another to film. I am grateful to the...
At about 38 seconds can see the driver side front off the ground. That tire is not helping forward progress. The Rancho 9000 shocks have 8" travel: 5 up , 3 down. Need to adjust that.

You guys are convincing me, I have to give some thought to the extra mass , moving the CG upward, that the roll bar will contribute. Addiiton of the roll bar might make a rollover more likely.
I'd like to compile a list of "events" of broken stuff and the cause. I have not broken anything on the Blazer, yet, though the fenders have shown self trimming properties from the tires :)
Another guy I ride with has had rear u-joint failure caused by axle wrap. Ladder bars fixes that.
I hear...
Am having a shop that I trust look into this. The truck has 4 inch lift , am looking to take 2 inch out, actually. Will be going to larger diameter tires yet the truck needs to clear the garage door :)
Hmm. I was going to have a tab welded on top of the diff housing then another on the high mounted tie rod, so the cylinder is up out of the rocks as well. I don't know about the extra motion described, guess I'll put a "wheel cam" under there so I can watch.
Thanks for the positive vibes guys.
No, don't stay home, get out there and enjoy your truck. My experience is to let the trails in your area tell you how you set up your truck, not fancy catalogs. An example is the physics of skinny tire theory. Its a popular topic with the expedition...
Hi Josh, I don't have a build thread. I guess I could start one from here forward, though it isn't anything extraordinary. Some guys get real excited about cup holders 'n such, but I go the otherway and downplay the mods. Mostly because I haven't done anything y'all haven't already seen. Work in...
Thank you Prospector. Clearly its a work in progress. Each time I take it on the trail we do an "after action assessment" to improve for next time :
1. Locking front differential is a GOOD thing. next time remember to engage BOTH front hubs :)
2. 10 psi w/ double beadlocks is a GOOD thing.
3...
