    Hello from Alaska

    Congrats!

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

I know someone who told me..."I learned to drive cars at 70MPH on the Interstate". Mine would thus be "I learned to drive on dirt roads in a Deuce and a half!"

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

If it makes everyone laugh, today someone and I were joking about a Deuce vs. a minivan...arbitrary stick shift vs. automatic... We have a running inside joke that I'm destined to end up with a minivan as my first vehicle...nah, I think the Deuce-as-a-first-ever-vehicle-to-a-new-driver...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I think I'll go for the 5 ton in about 13 months! But I'll start Deuce hunting soon (next month or so) if my current possibility doesn't pan out (Should know in the next few weeks) for a MV in the meantime. Plus after driving a M35A2 every day, and a...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Good luck, hope they find a good home! Preferably to another SS member!
  6. 71DeuceAK

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

"both up" meaning? 985A4? This an expand-o-van like a M934?
  7. 71DeuceAK

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

@simp5782, nice, two of them now? Keeping the original '84 as well? @mdemars03, looks like fun! @JohnnyBM931A2; LOL. Agreed. "Problem solved".

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Thanks for the encouragement! Granted, I'm 17 and here in AK you'd need the CDL for the 22,000 lbs gross weight and air brakes...and the earliest here you can get a CDL is 19. So best case scenario would be acquiring one for extremely cheap, and then having it sit in the driveway for a couple...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

That's the best part, the "cool" factor and why I would be driving a M923 every day! But on the flip side of things, if I had to go with a civillian car it'd be something small like a Geo Metro...except I might be living on an iffy dirt road that doesn't get plowed when it snows unless I take...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Sweet! One of my many bizarre (I thought I was weird until recently LOL) ideas was driving a M923/M925/etc as a commuter car LOL. Or maybe a M35A2 multifuel if I get good access to alternative fuel sources. But I'm told the 939 series 5 ton is way better for a daily driver.

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

What'd the boss and co-workers think? Is this going to become a daily driver?

    Went to Mow the Grass

Absolutely will do! Neat to see another member living in Delta Junction; my dad and I are looking at a house there. 6 acres, perfect for a wannabe M/V collector! Would love to meet up with some fellow Deuceophiles!
  13. 71DeuceAK

    Went to Mow the Grass

Yeah, it'll have endless uses! That's why I'm in the process of possibly obtaining one for moving to the Interior...

    Went to Mow the Grass

Interesting to know. I'm probably moving in August. Looking at a place in Delta Junction...at 6 acres plenty of room for Deuces and 5-tons!

    New 5 ton member

Yeah, I've literally considered a M923, 925, etc. as a daily driver. Preferably the A2 variant, for somewhat better fuel mileage LOL. Yeah, a nice, clean, restored one is a roads-only truck IMO; a rustier one belongs in the trees and mud LOL.

    Went to Mow the Grass

When are you heading back? Heading back to the Fairbanks area? If so would be you be interested in potentially trying to meet up? Would love to meet some other Alaskan Deuceophiles. Yeah, that's just the courteous thing to do, anyway. But yeah, I'm sure a lot of thumbs-up and waves are...
  17. 71DeuceAK

    New 5 ton member

Yeah, with the CTIS I imagine it would be great offroad! I'd eventually like to find a couple myself, one for wheeling and one as a daily driver. Seriously! Just beware once you get the 5 ton stuck, it's STUCK! LOL
  18. 71DeuceAK

    New 5 ton member

Sounds like fun, wheeling off road in a M923! It's been done before of course but I'd like to do the same someday...
  19. 71DeuceAK

    New 5 ton member

LOL yeah. BTW, tell us "recovery" stories!
  20. 71DeuceAK

    New 5 ton member

Looks good! With that mileage, is it a semi-daily driver?
