HanksDeuce: 8" Lift, Bobbed, External Cage, A/C and more Project!

Well, I downloaded a new app to my iPhone. It's the free HUD Awesome App that provides a GPS speedometer, distance, max/avg speed, and clock. You can even configure the app to reverse all of the readings so you can lay the phone down and project a "heads-up display" (HUD) onto the windshield...

HanksDeuce: 8" Lift, Bobbed, External Cage, A/C and more Project!

I removed the M105A2 bed with a forklift today. Over the next few days I will pressure wash the deuce and prepare to start sanding. When the weather cooperates maybe I can get some new paint sprayed on her!

    new deuce purchase brakes

Have it hauled. Go through the truck tip to tail looking for broken, missing, and/or loose stuff.

Everything will be desert tan (frame/body/wheels). I got a $3 Behr sample from Home Depot and it looks great!

HanksDeuce: 8" Lift, Bobbed, External Cage, A/C and more Project!

Just got back from a 10 mile test drive. Thanks again for Waterloo Specialties for making the power steering kit for my deuce. It is so much easier to navigate my driveway both forward and reverse. A few roads near my home have an angle that meets the highway where the road you are turning on...

    power steering upgrade input

I second the Waterloo Specialties power steering kit for deuces. Tom's kit allows me to turn my 53" Michelins lock to lock while sitting still in my driveway.

I'm not slacking. My new brake lines will be here Wednesday. :)

HanksDeuce: 8" Lift, Bobbed, External Cage, A/C and more Project!

Today I decided to add some piece of mind on critical bolted joints on the deuce by installing Nord-Lock washers. These washers prevent loosening of critical bolted joints because the angle between each little wedge on the washer faces is greater than the bolt pitch (angle). Each joint receives...

Jim, I sold the Westfield Megabusa in June of this year to a guy in Denver, CO on the USA7s.com forum. Now I have 100% of my time dedicated to the deuce. Good luck on finding a deuce!

HanksDeuce: 8" Lift, Bobbed, External Cage, A/C and more Project!

I decided to fix a few troublesome leaks today. Man, I'm sure glad these trucks are built a little better than non-MV trucks. See below for examples... 1) First up was removal of the transmission PTO for my winch. In June of this year I swapped my transmission out for a "recent...

I appreciate your feedback. Discs have performance and basic design advantages. The combination of rotors (the discs) squeezed by piston/caliper-driven pads can provide shorter stopping distances than the shoe-and-drum type of brake. Discs resist “fade” — the loss of power you experience when...

HanksDeuce: 8" Lift, Bobbed, External Cage, A/C and more Project!

Woo whooo! Robert at the following company was able to make my custom braided SS brake lines (DOT legal too). They will be made today and arrive by next Wednesday. The lines will keep the bulkhead fittings on the front axle (5/8-18 external thread and 7/16-24 inverted flare). The rear...

HanksDeuce: 8" Lift, Bobbed, External Cage, A/C and more Project!

Most of the shops mentioned above will NOT take the liability to make brake lines. The hydraulic lines they would gladly make for the public are mostly used for off-road equipment on farms, construction sites, etc. DOT requires testing all brake lines to 3000 psi. Some of these companies will...

I'll give them a call tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up!

HanksDeuce: 8" Lift, Bobbed, External Cage, A/C and more Project!

Jeff, the custom stainless lines I had made by Connector Specialists in Pearl, MS were used on the factory deuce drums. I used them to replace the old rubber hoses at each wheel cylinder up front, as well as the required extended lines from the frame to each axle tee fitting. I'm guessing...

HanksDeuce: 8" Lift, Bobbed, External Cage, A/C and more Project!

I will let you know as soon as I can find someone to build me some %#*@ SS brake lines!!!

HanksDeuce: 8" Lift, Bobbed, External Cage, A/C and more Project!

Since I seem to do everything the hard way I might as well choose to repaint the deuce in 3-color camo (green, black, brown). :D

HanksDeuce: 8" Lift, Bobbed, External Cage, A/C and more Project!

The highest part of the cab is now 114.5 inches with the 53s. I scrapped the idea of the external cage and A/C because I purchased an in-cab A/C and heater. The cage should fit inside the cab just fine.

HanksDeuce: 8" Lift, Bobbed, External Cage, A/C and more Project!

Well, the disc brakes are completely finished now. All that is left are custom braided stainless steel brake lines to go from the factory tees at each axle to the 2001 F550 rear caliper at each corner. Here are a few teaser pictures. As usual all of my pictures are on my website...

Steve, I found a deal I couldn't pass up. They sort of look like that. Not as purdy as yours though. :D
