right, it has already been done! why reinvent the wheel, just copy the AF truck system. unless you want to make it better (imho) which is what i do to my trucks with full air over hyd.
tom
there is, read WAS, a steering box that was exactly the same as the m35 but had the hyd valve for an assist cyl built into it. have only ever seen one and that was long ago.
tom
i know of 2 places that have them, of course they are not cheap, expext to pay about $400 , the wheels i am not sure, but i have never had a problem finding them, i think they may be the same as HMMWV. like i said i am in the process of putting togeather a list, so by the end of the week i...
yes, you may be right.
i have 14.5R20XL tires and they do not touch. i have done stock tire and wheel trucks and there is no problem that i recall. you can go with a ross box on the inside, but i prefer the saginaw 710. i suppose we should have a defination of 'power' but the saginaw steers...
the BIG money is in the box and pump, maybe as much as $1000 depending on how 'lucky' you are. everything is bolt on. i will have a basic kit soon, and you can add from there.
tom
i am going to start a list of off the shelf parts for power steering on a deuce. since i have done several and find it pretty easy, tell me what parts YOU think you would want to just buy used as opposed to buying a complete kit?
if a complete hydraulic kit could be around $2000, would any one...
G, i still want to see a comparason of the cat flywheel vs the multifuel. i assume different bolt pattern, but you never know, some things have a standard. or could it be redrilled?
tom
the a3 with a 3116 cat is a #2 with an adaptor ring to #3, so the 3053 would bolt right in. someone should do this swap, it looks quite easy once you find a flywheel. gerhard, since the cat and the multifuel are both sae #2, is the flywheel really that different?
1: you cannot just add a pto on a md3060, there is no place for it. you must actually change the transmission to a md3060p.
2: a md3060 is a 6 speed and 6th is .66 od or .5:1
3: as everyone now should know there is NO .85 od 3053. that was a misprint a long time ago and comes up often, but...
the 3116 can be turned up to more power than the multifuel. with a stock 3053 you will have some more mph, but not much. with gear kit you will have 67 mph at 2500 rpm. there is a mph/rpm charton the od gear website for comparason.
i ended up with the minibus unit on the ceiling of the cab, 28 deg air! no cab insulation yet but it has enough cooling to overcome even that. also got a vanner 50 amp batt equalizer so no problems with batteries.
tom
some people just don't get it. there is no other manual trans that will fit other than the 3053. if there was i would not have spent 4 years and thousands of $$$ on od gear project.
it is the cheapest and probably best way to get from slow to fast.
tom
tom, i don't consider 450 rpm much of an increase, and with out lockup i agree it is just no good.
if you look at post #11, i suggested the spicer early on, you must have missed it.
as for an overdrive auto, allison NEVER made one in the AT or MT line, they were all 1:1 final drive.
allison...
.69 od = input turns .69 and output turns 1
.69 x 1.44 = 1
44% increase in rpm
the formula is ((y2 - y1) / y1)*100 = your percentage change, where y1 is .69 and y2 is 1.
so it really is almost 45%, i just rounded down.
tom
joking? no, not really. it has been mentioned earlier that going back to the spicer might be the bast option since a od auto will not fit and/or does not exist.
i am not aware that the cat can really turn that much faster. if it could then there would be no need to change trans. it should be...
