All 3 of my return springs were broken and thats why the hand brake was not working. The band was very floppy and was barely touching the drum, the lining is still in great shape so it must have not been used much. I just need some new springs to get it working.
Is the handbrake lever supposed...
No problem, my M211 has a 7.5L V8 in it and with the mechanical fuel pump I simply had no need for a bunch of clutter inside my tank. Tank needs cleaning anyway so I thought while I had it all apart I might as well do away with the pump and stuff. I did keep the sheet metal pump hanger/cover so...
I am getting ready to inspect all my steel lines and flex lines, thanks for the info! Appears Memphis stocks much more than what is listed on their site.
M215, I had my divers side bucket seat reupholstered with high density foam since the original spring was trashed beyond repair. The passenger side spring on the other hand is in like new condition (I painted it too) and I was going to have it reupholstered similarly to the drivers seat. I don't...
There's still so many of these old girls doing odd jobs all around the country. One member here picked one up fresh from liquidation here in Arizona, was in active service until 2007! Most are potato and grain trucks now a days though. Still, I think most would agree that a modified G749 still...
Yes sir, that it be. I spent today going over every wire and found everything to be in great condition, nothing spliced or hacked and only a few clips here and there when the old 302 was removed. It will be PIE getting it back to 24V and the Oldsmobile points ignition should do fine on a converter.
I took it down to my alternator shop to see if they could test it and find out if it still works after all these years. He put it on the little machine (1300rpm) and said it was putting out a whopping 36 volts!
Is this normal? Will the original Delco Remy regulator be able to drop that down to...
If anyone is interested I have a fuel pump I just took out of my M211 I don't need. It consists of:
-fuel pump
-fuel pump screen/screws (use old screen as template for new one)
-braided electrical cable with both covers for electrical connections
-J shaped steel fuel line, with fittings, with...
Believe it or not, both vinyl and canvas was used in making G749 seat covers. The original 1955 manual shows decent pictures of how the seats are assembled, and it does indeed appear to be a textured (porous) vinyl type material. Whether it's olive drab or brown is another question. I needed my...
It appears the top band isn't stuck, it has slight gap between it and the drum. It's the bottom part band that is stuck. I checked the return springs and only the bottom spring is intact. The other 2 springs above it are rusted and broken. Tried pulling the bottom band down and no luck.
Can...
Nope! My band is indeed TIGHT against the drum with no gap at all. Which explains why there's no resistance in the hand lever, the band is not retracting at all for some reason. Couldn't be rusted to the drum because I know the truck has been driven at least 5 miles with it like this.
I do see...
I checked the handbrake band on my 211 and noticed looks like it's constantly squeezed around the drum, isn't it supposed to retract when disengaged? There is also no resistance at all when pulling the hand brake lever up to engage. Is this normal?
Now that I have my truck in hand I am able to see what has been done to it. All the original wiring is still in place and only a few cuts were made here and there, easily repaired, just have to plug a few connectors under the dash back in. My generator is still intact and was even hooked up to...
Absolutely! If I had done the repower job myself I wouldn't have even though of using a tranny without an overdrive. The 455/Th400 is a great combo and extremely durable. However it was never designed to push 13,000 of steel down the highway at 65. Will it do 65? Absolutely, very easily in fact...
Answer to that question is YES. I have a 54 M211 "early deuce" with a 7.5 V8 in it. More specifically, a 1971 455 Oldsmobile and Turbo 400 out of a Delta 88 Royale. Running short little manifolds only so it's got a pretty nice growl to it.
You are correct on both accounts. If I hadn't broke my camera cord i'd be glad to take lots of pictures of the rebuilding process.
If I decide not to finish rebuilding this thing, this looks like a good alternative to get back my onboard air system.
complete a/c to oba write up.... tons of...
