Run a garden hose over your car exhaust pipe as it idles in the driveway, you'll see the same thing happen. You can ignore the chemical engineering degree, no problem.
Any 8 of the 10!pulley ribs OK. Best if members drill their own alignment holes per their setup. I can reduce the bracket price significantly though since I would not have to acquire the purchased part in these cases with a pad mount compressor. 8.3's can add an A/C compressor relatively low...
No prob. $108 was the lowest price I could find. I traded an A/C compresssor bracket kit for the compressor. If anybody else wants this compressor, I can ask the member here if OK to list his contact ;). It was new in box and he has several of them. It is 4 bolt pad mount though, but you...
8 rib A/C clutch pulley is in and on. They included the entire thing, I only needed the pulley. Alignment is now good for alternator and A/C compressor.
Rear main reseal one night this weekend. If it goes really well, I should soon have a shot of the trans hanging off the back of the...
My take on the video is that I would not do it to my truck, for all of the reasons that you all list, but it is amazing that our trucks are capable of it. Yes, probably ready to scrap after doing so, but it can and will do it if need be to perform the task assigned or to get soldiers back home...
Engine should be fine. The water out the exhaust is normal for the situation. The entire exhaust is liquid cooled in this case, including the manifold, so it is condensing all of the moisture that is in the exhaust pipe, continuously. Exactly same as when you first start your car in the...
It is really not free. Guy that owns the place is big into minibikes, so I gave him an 18hp Briggs Vanguard V-Twin for his minibike, now he pulls wheelies and 1st place trophies at shows with it.
Here we go again....rear main, part III.
Ordered the 24v engine mounted fuel lift pump and (2) 24v Jake brake solenoids. Engine will be full 24v system.
Small alternator pulley is in. Hopefully the $ spend is nearing the end. I get free stainless braided Teflon hoses and -AN fittings for...
Switching engine ECM from 12v to 24v. This is done with a software switch inside (feature selectable), and by changing the engine mounted lift pump from 12v to a 24v one. Also need to change the Jake actuator solenoids from 12v to 24v.
At the same time, confirming the engine cal is 400hp...
Just relax, it is progressing forward. If you want to sign up for a task, put the seven 16.00 XZL's on my truck and five on the trailer. That should keep you busy for a while. Otherwise, next update will be in a day or so about the second attempt at the rear main, and then test fit assembly...
Fan likely won't actuate for submerged engine. Doubt engine would even be able to maintain thermostat 180F operating temp, let alone reach the 200F fan trip. On an M35a2 they recommend to loosen the fan belt for your concern, but only because it is direct drive in that case.
Looks like...
Is this a member here? This is just awesome to watch. Apology if already called out. At this level in the cab, you don't even need cup holders for a screw top 20oz bottle! Gives a new definition to liquid cooled - externally.

Wow.
The flywheel housing on engines that utilize the Allison MT654CR transmissions is approximately 1" longer in depth than a conventional housing. At least this is the case with the 8.3L.
As stated, first make sure the engine turns freely. A starter can be submerged and continue working ok, but the key point is it needs to be cycled a lot and warmed up for a long time to get the water out before it corrodes the steel parts. This is only a 2-3 day window tops to get it done. A...
*Scary music playing*.....
That helps make up for the 2 hours of sleep I'm on.
Shipping goons found the other box. Rocker box with pass through wire bulkhead for Jake actuators, raised valve cover for clearance, and 2 piece stacked breather filter. Seller was great, included everything...
Yep, and it is now easy to see that once I screwed it up. I thought Cummins would have a more positive location on that seal carrier, but they actually do the opposite. Like you and Will said, let it center itself, bolt carrier to block, and then bring the pan up to it, RTV the corners like on...
Oil pan installed. I did a couple of shots to show how the 8.3 mil oil pan has a curved depression in it for front axle clearance. Also I peened out the bolt holes before install so they were not high points.
Rear seal installed. I'm not very happy with the rear seal. I wish I would...
Trial fit of clutch cover with hydraulic air-assisted release fork, flywheel, inspection cover, and pilot bearing. Not knowing where to set depth of pilot bearing, I simply set it flush with the flywheel hub surface (not crank side). Three foot 2"x4" and a few hammer whacks put that bad dog in...
Oil pan and pickup tube swap from RV rear sump to mil front with depression. Bolted right in. Added a fitting on rear of block for heater core return since I added the factory coolant filter and took those ports.
