Topped off the brake fluid, cleaned the tires a bit and embraced my inner OCD to straighten some cooling fins. The small trans cooler was easy. The oil cooler is in worse shape and is very tedious. Had to stop when I lost the light and when my back ordered me to.

Well, I've finished all the hubs and am now more confident to take her up to roadway speeds. Drove to a friend's farm in Waldorf yesterday and everything was fine. I can now cruise at 55MPH and am no longer worried about some mystery hub issues. I like knowing when the maintenance was done...
I was able to source an 85" cable off the auction site and it fit perfectly. I couldn't find anything readily that said whether 85" is the older shorter cable or the newer longer cable. Well, I can tell anyone who is curious that 85" is the older shorter version. The cable I pulled off is a...
Finished RnR on the last hub late yesterday. Painted this morning.
All four are done now. Only one that had lost seal for sure.
Now to to tackle the sluggish throttle response and begin doing cosmetic and cleaning.
Will take my my son off-roading soon!

Thanks for that added detail retiredwarhorses. I did some searching and bought an NOS cable off the auction site. Listed as 85". Is that the new or old style? If new, I'd appreciate a description of how it is supposed to be run, as my long later cable is definitely not run correctly.

Well BLK HMMWV wins. I traced it to the speedometer. Why that cable needs to be two and a half feet longer than needed I don't know. Rather than remove and lube it as planned, I'll probably just replace it with a more correctly sized one.

Thanks BLK HMMWV, I thought speedos generally went into the transmission. This is definitely in the transfer case.
I will trace the line and also get a picture of it tonight.

joeberg, definitely not an antenna. All my antenna and radio power cables have been cut and this cable enters the transfer case.
BLK HMMWV, definitely not a vent line, I found those.
Gunzy, I didn't think of that. I'll look at the TM again, or just walk the cable forward. It could be that...
I was under my HMMWV last evening looking for the source of the intermittent grumbling/rattle (I feared it was from the transfer case due to the position and this pained me to think about). Underneath the beast I spotted what looked like a long black sheathed cable coming out of the top left...
Action,
Interesting question. For some reason I thought they were to be tightened to 35 foot-pounds. In reviewing the TM again I see you are quite correct and they should only go to 15 foot-pounds. So the mistake was mine. I hope this means my torque wrench is okay, I suppose it does.
I...
Drained, filled, replaced seals and repainted left front hub. Took some extra time because I broke a couple bolt heads on the cover plate when torqueing them on. Bought new bolts and they had indications of the same problem. Turn out my Harbor Freight torque wrench loses calibration over 20...
Thanks gents. I appreciate the encouragement.
The paint is Krylon Rust Tough in Black Semi Flat. I've used it for years to paint my Harley tins, in straight Flat black. Easy finish to blend later after minor repairs :-)
I intend to paint all the undercarriage starting with hubs. 'Spray as...
I was told by GP customer service No, as others have stated. They are also understanding if the storage yard has weird policies and hours. Mine was only open one day a week for 5 hours for vehicle pickup, so it was a while before I could get the stars to line up, but I was not charged. (Only...
Finished installing new inner wheel bearing yesterday and put the right front hub all back together. Decided to wire brush and paint it all while I was at it. Replaced inner and outer seals as well. Now to do the other three...

Mine has the same camber, and it caught my attention as well.
Do I interpret your responses to WM's question to indicate that we should adjust the shims to accommodate our current lack of heavy loading? I take this to mean that our HMMWVs once had heavy equipment, but don't now and should be...
It was off the auction site. Listed as correct part, but being sold from a liquidator and has no NSN markings on it (the NSN is in the listing, I found it via search). I suspect a knockoff, but I got it for $30 delivered, so if it lasts just a coupla years I'm satisfied.
Other sources wanted...
I also wanted to mention that I got to replace a spindle seal on Thecaptain's Humvee last Sunday. He lives outside Manassas and convinced me to come out and learn about hubs while we replaced a leaky seal on his 1993 Hmmwv. It was a very straightforward repair. He also let me drive it and it was...
Replace the right front half shaft this evening. Came out and new one went back in nice and easy. Unfortunately the hub is not so nice. The washer for the halfshaft capscrew was cracked and broken and I could see water inside that area which came from me hosing off all the mud on the hub ...
