As a side note, I am planning to offer the old tires to "crossfit" gyms and work out clubs around town... They may take 2-3 each and there will be no disposal cost other than me hauling the tires to them!
That way they can flip big tires and get in shape like Coffey and I...
I deserve that since I voted for someone else the MV of the month this month!
My tools are seriously lacking here... I ended up using a breaker bar with a pipe over the handle for most of the time. I have an old air compressor my neighbor gave me (had to fix it before using it) and a borrowed...
I sourced some good used MV/T’s and hauled them home this weekend.
They do not have wheels, so I am beginning the process of switching bead locks and wheels.
It is a lot of work, but will be worth the effort once I can get these older XML’s off the truck. I got one completed today.
I’m glad to know you are getting it dialed in Wes. Thanks again for meeting today to drop those tires. The truck is looking good after all the work you had to do recently.
I had a conversation about tire shaving with tnmogger a few months ago. I don’t think either of us knew of any shops. It’s a dying art. Some have rigged their own setup, but it’s labor intensive.
I may have just found information that will make my earlier post obsolete... Video of a M-1088 in operation with larger shoes...

I was going to vote for my FMTV brother Coffey1, but... alas... a 4x4 street legal forklift with snow blade, bumpers, and 2 man crew. How can I not give my vote to migginsbros? Sorry Ken!
Welcome aboard from mid TN. This is a great group with lots of detailed information. Dig into the HMMWV section and do some reading while you wait for the EUC to clear!
Welcome sir! A generator auction got me started too. I started with an MEP-802a, but have since upgraded to the 803a. You will not find a more helpful and knowledgeable group of gentleman with whom to discuss military equipment.
You will probably find that the 803a is a pretty quiet unit. You...
No, the gears come from MRAP axles. The axles are made by the same manufacturer and the center sections will swap to the LMTV fairly easily. There is a good thread for you to read here:

Looks like you are in deep Bob! I am preparing to do the same thing, so I'll have to "learn" my way through wheel separating with the available tools I have... First off, no hoist... Mmmm, is this really a good idea?
Wes has some tips in this video for us that only have an assortment of...
I think the Goodyear MV/T tires are a good option. The Michelin XZL's are nice but harder to find in my area.
Others can can comment on re-gearing, but I've seen costs from 900/axle to well over $3K. It kind of depends on the availability of 3rd members from scrap MRAP axles.
NAPA carries...
Nice rig. I had to grin when I saw your yellow mustang in the back! Now I know it can be done... I hope everything was mechanically in order for your trip home. Did you check over fluids, etc before leaving. I ended up spending 1 hour plus checking/topping fluids and buttoning up loose ends...
