Are you using something other than a multifuel engine? Just wondering why you wouldn't use a gear-driven pump setup like they did in the 5-ton trucks.
The main advantage to using two single-ended rams like your setup is the fact that there's still a one-piece tie-rod connecting the two front...
Would sure like to know what they had in mind when discussing those more powerful configurations. Would be absolutely thrilled if I could get anywhere near 500ft/lbs out of my LDS.
Cool project! Looks like you're going to be able to make good use of that space under the cabover. Are you still going to be able to use the spare tire hoist?
Have already measured and modeled the deck of my M103A3 trailer (click the link to download CAD files). Was just wondering if there were any blueprints for the M103/5/whatever chassis available.
Don't be so dismissive. Everything's relative. Nice(re), quiet(er), warm(er), etc. There are a few of us that have gone to great lengths to civilize these trucks and make them a little (or a lot) more drivable.
The Isuzu C240 engines I found all ended up selling for way too much, but think I might have scored a Kubota V2203-DI. Friend of a friend runs a refrigeration business and has a bunch of them, so I should have one within the next 2-3 weeks. Now I have to figure out how to adapt my SM465 to the...
I've used those and they're pretty sketchy, especially if you're working with a taller vehicle and an unbalanced load. The ****ty transmission jacks that they sell at HF are a little bit more stable and they're not much more expensive.
Wish I'd seen those auctions! Hate the idea of paying +2x what someone else paid for them a few months ago. Sounds like a neat little engine though. Will see what kind of info I can dig-up.
Yeah, that's a concern of mine too. The TDI should be an easy swap because there's a company that makes...
Going down the wrong path? You mean looking at the 1.9L TDI's? Have been reading-up on them and it looks like they're putting out an impressive amount of power for their size/weight. Why don't you think one of those would be a good choice for this project?
Oh, and I don't think many people...
Sorry, what engine are you talking about exactly? How much does your Sami weigh, and what's the gearing and all that?
Funny thing is this little CJ5 will be the most practical vehicle I own.
No idea. Going to throw a pair of D44's out of a late 70's Wagoneer under this thing and I'm going to...
Don't want to argue the point with you, but I've looked at the specs and the 4BT is a bad fit for an early model CJ5 (length, height, weight). This is just a little runaround Jeep. Only concerned about power to the extent that I want to enough torque to pull gears and keep up with traffic...
Onan / Cummins A2300T looks pretty interesting.
TDI might be an option? Looks like OTT makes an adapter that would allow me to use the SM465 with that engine using a Toyota bellhousing.
Someone on pirate4x4 pointed me to this discussion about Kubota V2003 MT /V2203 DI/ V2403 engines.
