The preload is usually measured in inch pounds not foot pounds. I have a beam type inch pound torque wrench. You put it on the pinion nut and see how many inch pounds it takes to spin the pinion. You have to have the diff carrier taken out so that the pinion does not have the extra drag of the...
RE: Removing the IR and blackout light and 24volt jump syste
The slave connector goes to the terminal strips at the rear of the batteries on the firewall. Disconnect the cables there then unbolt the connector from the radiator support. Once the cables are disconnected at the firewall it is safe...
RE: Re: RE: Height of Ring Mount Above Cab?
Readyman told me where to get my ubolts. I can't remember who it was I got them from. I put bolts through the holes in the legs and they held the legs at the right height while I got the ring positioned right. I can check tomorrow but I am pretty sure...
Check behind the engine on the firewall. There is a spot that cuts into the harness if not protected. My truck had it cut and ground out. When it shorted to ground it burned apart. Some GL just twisted the wires together and put tape on it. Needless to say it rubbed through and grounded again. I...
GL would have nothing to do with this. GL is the last link in a chain of people that can get the items. The tanks are completely separate and there is a thread on this. The tank may have come from the National Guard but if I remember correctly the actual request goes through a national office...
The mirrors are not brand specific. They are generic. I have them on my F-350 now and have had the same mirrors on my 77 Dodge. In fact, I stole on from the ford to put on the dodge. They are pretty standard. If I remember right those mounts replace the bolts mounting the window to the cowl. I...
RE: Re: RE: Largest tire w/duals?
Readyman sold the deuce with the tires and rims to another member in Michigan. I met him at an event and he is on SS but I forgot his name or screen name.
One thing I have noticed. Most trailers have had the data plates replaced and I think a lot of A2's are really A1's that are rebuilds. Some of the A2 mods do get put into older trailers but I don't think they go as far as changing the whole air brake system. If I remember right, the true A2's...
This is also why most cucv's have two 12 volt alts. The two charge the batteries as if they were separate. An imbalance will not be a problem. Only on the other vehicles with a 24 volt alt is there a problem with battery imbalance between two 12 volt batteries.
I have to say it is real easy for us to say hold on to them and don't scrap them but we are not the one with the big boat anchors in our yard. Do what you need to Wrecker. I hope someone gets them whole as some day the things will be rare and hard to obtain like so many other military equipment...
I would expect the mileage to show what you put down in the request. That is why they want us to verify the information. Back when we picked up the truck and the form up at the same time the GL guy and I would verify the information on the SF-97 to make sure it is correct. As to the odometer...
The problem filling the tank makes is sound like the vent line for the filler neck is crimped or clogged. If the tank does not allow air in while the fuel is pulled out you will get a vacuum in the tank and it will starve for fuel. I don't remember if the cap is a venting cap or if there is a...
Plymouth would be great. I have a pressure pot but do not want to do it myself. Curt if you get that info let me know. I found a place in Redford but Plymouth would be closer.
Thanks
Chuck
