as i recall, all that happens to these pumps is that the drive collar for the goveror comes apart and puts lots of shreads of its self in the pump causing it to quit. i have always just taken them apart, cleaned them and put new drive collar in. just be sure to leave all the settings where they...
you don't need to soak them. laquer thinner and a small, stiff brush will clean them up easily and quickly. if there is any corrosion i them glass bead all the parts and make sure to blow out all the passages. you will end up with a like new carb.

stumps is completely right! i would do a couple of simple things first. take the shutoff cover off and pull the control rod to the goveror off. see if the control shaft feels sticky in the rear most position. it should be very free. if it is sticky pull the control shaft that lever is on out...
DH, yes you are correct. i was not in full agreement about using the timing window since most people on here doing this need the simplest version and may not fully understand the position relations in the pump. however, while i will say yes i have seen many with no red paint left on the tooth, i...
this is not really a hard thing to do if a group would all decide on one picture.
check Deuce 'n' A Half T Shirt from Zazzle.com
there are several shops within a mile of me that do shirts and i could get it done with enough input from you. (all of you)
tom
yes, i get that. but since the designer was thoughtful enough to put a mark on the HH gear, why even take the pointer cover off?? by the way, the reason that the red tooth is used is so that the cam for the HH piston will be at the lowest point, making it easiest to reinstall the head. this is...
the timing pointer in the window does not even come close to lining up when the HH is propper position to be removed. it is only for crankshaft timing. so at best you would just be guessing. if the red scribed gear is used there is no error at all. granted some trucks may have been put togeather...
you are right on chris. maxspeed250, however smart he thinks he is, is completely wrong. the tooth with the line is to ensure the arc is in the propper position. any other spot will damage the pump.
tom
well yes that is right but that's the point! not everything lines up at the same time!
checking the injection timing is one thing, and may be done to confirm the settings, but servicing the HH is another matter entirely and is not really related to the overall timing as nothing changes when...
patrick, go to the web site, there are pictures. 2nd gear is now on needle brngs. actually it is the shaft spinning too fast relative to the gear speed that is the problem.
tom
chris, no this is where some people get confused. the mark under the small cover with 4 bolts is a timing mark to time the entire pump with the engine. the red tooth with line scribed on it is only for servicing the HH. when the red tooth is lined up the HH should lift out easily. now if someone...
maxspeed250, your info is very wrong and may cause someone to damage their pump. you MUST line up the scribed (red) gear tooth with the pointer for internal components to clear when lifting the head. any other position will do damage. perhaps you or someone else before you damaged your pump and...
this is a good time to say thanks to a member who has been a VERY good friend. gerhard, in uruguay, ( gringeltaube ) spent more of his own money than either of us wanted, and also spent considerable time with some of the companies in uruguay trying to help me get this stalled project going...
i wouldn't define 3 as 'a lot of people' and 1 of them wouldn't do this anyway! i will say that you probably will NOT see any increase in mpg. in a diesel fuel = power, and more speed = more wind resistance etc. i got 12 mpg at 55 mph with 8000 lbs and slight grades both up and down so they may...
westex, that would depend on the grades you encounter. i have driven mine with 8000 lbs in bed and long grades will slow it down to some extent. to put it in perspective let me give an example. when my truck had the stock fuel rate settings and stock trans there is a long grade near here that...
