UPDATE ON GEARS
an update on progress.
on 8/18/2010 i sent 1 kit to john waller and 2 to charles talbert. i put the 4th set in my truck and all went well. hope to see their feedback and impressions here soon. it took 8 mths for 1 US company to make 5 sets. way too long. now Forest City Gear...
i am only in maryland and yours is easily rebuilt. take outs are cheap though, just check the turns input to output to be sure it is a 3053 (overdrive) and pull the top cover to inspect the gears for rust and broken things before buying. there is no economical way to change a 3052 into a 3053...
i would need to know what it is leaking, better picture of where, and why one of the ip head hold downs is missing. also if it bump starts perfectly that tells me the ip head is worn enough that it does not make enough pressure at cranking speed, so you need a new head anyway.

i fully agree, i was just pointing out the issue in MD. i am afraid many have done things like full hydro steering, bobing, repowering, etc. and if they are not very careful they may find out that their insurance does not stand behind them when a major mishap happens. case in point, i have a TR8...
the 5 ton pump has 3 lines. the smallest one is a 'vent' line but it must be well below the top of the fluid or it will get air and cause several problems. i reccomend just plugging it at the pump as it is redundant. it is tied internaly to the suction line.
tom
why not just upgrade the brake system to dual. actually easier and better. pinion brakes with an open diff may just result in wheel spin and no braking at all.
tom
jr, i was working from memory, in tank pump could be up to 6 but i think most are 3 - 5. then while cranking the booster pump puts out approx 10psi, idle would be 20+. any increase while cranking would be a good sign.

clinto and others, this is what i found today on ebay. search for 'new universal sanden style sd508', also 'universal underdash evaporator minibus' and 'universal condenser 14 x 24' the fitting size should work out right and the minibus evap is more btu than i used, but i would go with it next...
good luck, i think you have been told wrong. the 5 ton trans is way bigger that the 2 1/2 ton. i think you are comparing the flywheel housing which is the same on both trucks, but is not a true sae2, but can be modified.
tom
??? the 5 ton trans (spicer 6000 series) is in no way interchangeable with the 2 1/2 ton trans (spicer 3000 series) if you are using a 4bt you might want to look at my website for trans upgrade. you also might want to talk with charles talbert at m series rebuild, he can tell you anything you...
what is a 'direct flow air intake'? and no, i doubt you are getting any extra air. only 500°, something is wrong, i would guess the reading since it is easy to make more heat than that.
tom
these are all the pictures i took. none of lines or dryer, but that is relatively obvious. cab is not sealed or insulated yet and still much better than no a/c. sanden compressor and other parts from ebay. i can send you a tracing of the rear bracket, it is too big to scan.
tom
i used a sanden comp, very common, and cheap new. you can just use a 3 ohm 50 watt resistor for the clutch power.
even with an un sealed cab, mine is comfortable. so i imagine sealed it will just be better. i do have patterns for the insulation, but not many were interested. they make fitting...
