    Puzzled on an 803

Ok, probably should start new threads for the other gens, but to get you pointed in the right direction: 1) on the one that won't start, how does the compression / cranking speed sound compared to the others? If it cranks faster and without the compression pulse sound you may have carbon buildup...

    Puzzled on an 803

Don't feel bad, there are several components in that machine the will "Die" and then start working either by whacking with a hammer or just removing and shipping through the mail ( K1 Relay for one example ) or sometimes just a short ride in the back of a pickup will occasionally cause issues...

Looks good! Thank you for the feedback guys!

Need Assistance Identifying Onan Diesel Model

Definitely was not an 002 if it was Positive ground, although to some, the 002 battery cables may appear to be positive ground because the negative goes to the body of the starter. However the post on the starter's body is the ground. The positive battery cable goes to the solenoid up on top of...

    Puzzled on an 803

If you suspect the fault indicator, simply unplug the white ( natural ) rectangular connector on the back side and try starting it again. Unplugging it usually bypasses all the safety's ( or at least most, I never tried overvoltage )

Need Assistance Identifying Onan Diesel Model

Hello, you are correct, that motor is a DJB series. The 002 is a negative ground 24V system. That motor is probably as well. If it is positive ground the starter will NOT spin backwards.... sort of. The starter motor will physically turn backwards but it will not engage the drive gear because...

    MEP002a IP plunger broken

Definitely a good idea and one that has been on my mind for a while now. I have a friend bringing me an 003 parts motor with a good PSU pump on it this week. I might just get the itch to take it apart and look into having a machine shop look at it.

MEP 1040 OR MEP 803?? MEP 1040 on a trailer??

Do your homework and study the pictures and video's carefully. Just because it runs doesn't mean it is OK, but at least you know it's not seized. Lets start at the beginning: The old air cooled 003 ( not that you mentioned it ) is a very simple machine but pretty loud. easy to work on and...

    MEP002a IP plunger broken

The plunger is a simple shape but complicated to fabricate.... It is precision ground made from hardened steel, precision fit to match the pump head and is a shaft about 5/16" dia., tapered on 1 end with a head on the end, looks like a baseball bat. There is a thru hole for the drive pin and a...

    MEP002a IP plunger broken

There is a very simple way to tell them apart ( if you can't see the tag near the throttle lever. Your PSU pump has a large flat head screw sticking out of a boss pointing directly down from the bottom of the pump. The Ambac pump has the boss but no screw in it. The delivery valve, cap holder ...

    MEP002a IP plunger broken

You have the old American Bosch PSU pump. Unfortunately I've also had 4 or 5 with broken plungers. I searched everywhere and no one had a replacement plunger and Ambac told me they don't support that pump at all. Occasionally I have seen used pumps on Ebay, but to tell you the truth your best...

    Mep002a gauges

There are quite a few different ones available. Some will fit in the original openings, others such as the small Chinese rectangles require a little filing of the holes and fabricating an adapter. I have used the Chinese ones from Ebay and made adapter discs. Things to be aware of: Some Hz...

    New Fuel Drums

Nice! that's a real eye catcher I bet! Got a 67' coupe with a 5.0 small block, 5 speed stick, 9" 3:70 rear , 4 wheel discs and nitrous Had it for 35 years now. 69' convertible with a big block and a C6 2000 GT, custom paint, lowered 2" and custom wheels, shifter etc. 65' coupe original A-code...

    New Fuel Drums

Hell with the diesel tanks... is that about a 2000 GT under the cover?? I've got a few "Horses" in the barn myself. 4 at the moment but probably a dozen in the past, none of which ever stayed stock for very long!

MEP003A glow plug conversion to 12Volt

Not a problem.... Unfortunately I also made an error earlier myself. I had mentioned that running a 12V feed to the solenoid off 1 battery might be the best option, however, I forgot that doing so will send 12V to the intake heaters which are already in series.... resulting in 6V per heater...

    M105 trailer brakes, elec conversion?

I know this is a super old thread, but incase any of you guys are still considering an electric / Hydraulic conversion, I just did the conversion on an MEP-005A dual wheel generator and trailer. I used a Hydrastar HBA 10 1000psi electric actuator along with their battery / breakaway kit and...

MEP003A glow plug conversion to 12Volt

Actually on the 002 / 003 I believe it would be impossible to wire in series because the ground is through the cylinder head. On the 002/003 intake heaters the ground is isolated, allowing them to be wires in series. Same thing with the LPW2/LPW4 intake heaters, they are grounded using ground...

    Mep 002a battery charging

It's a very simple system to troubleshoot, TM spells it out pretty good and also check the sticky at the beginning of this forum. All you need to test with is a decent multi meter.

MEP003A glow plug conversion to 12Volt

You absolutely could. Just pull your 12V off 1 battery instead of 2. In fact you could most likely utilize the current glow plug solenoid and simply run a new feed to it that draws 12V from 1 battery instead of drawing 24V from the terminal strip as it currently does. That would also keep the...
