    802a Hard Start - Thoughts?

Guy is thinking of the other thread with the 005 who ran it out of fuel and now can't get it to start. Sometimes these threads all run together in our minds!

    802a Hard Start - Thoughts?

Do you know what it is doing while trying to start? Is it smoking? If so what color? Is it cranking abnormally fast and smooth ( without the sound of strong compression ) How many hours on it? What are you calling "Cold" weather? That unit would probably start even without the preheaters...

    Issues Starting MEP-005

Also, is your shut-off lever wired back towards the rear of the IP? If not, make sure it hasn't rotated clockwise towards the radiator at all. Lastly, smoke without start could be an indication of insufficent fuel. Diesels go to full throttle at start-up and the governor grings teh fuel down...

    MEP-016D

At 130' deep I doubt it is even a 1hp. Its probably either 1/2 hp or most likely a 3/4 hp. My well is 600' deep with a 3/4hp pump at 300' down and at 300' still plenty of head pressure for the 70 psi. storage tank. I think you will probably be fine starting just the well pump with your 016D as...

Generator Hook up 1 phase zig zag or double delta

On the 30% derating, I don't think the 12 wire heads are expected to be derated, my impression was always that only the 10 wire heads used in the 804 and 805 need to derate by 30% if you are attempting to pick single phase off 2 of the 3 legs, since that head can't be reconfigured to true single...

Has anyone sourced the MEP803a generator end bearing?

It will come off they way you are doing it, but you're probably hung up on the bearing. Try pulling or prying out on the end cover and then use a large socket and a hammer and whack the outer bearing race towards the radiator to try to get it out of the end cover.

    MEP 802a producing 33.7 volts

That looks like one of your Field wires chewed in half. If so it should be an easy fix. F1 and F2 simply plug into a pair of .250" Fastons attached inside the end cover. You can easily repair or replace it.

Has anyone sourced the MEP803a generator end bearing?

FYI, when you go to change the bearing you will most likely find that it is pressed onto the rotor but slips relatively easily into the end housing. When you go to install, do as guy mentioned, warm the bearing up a bit, but not enough to cook the grease or the rubber seals. Having the rotor as...

    Starting a MEP003a

YES! I once had an 003 with the new style gear reduction starter and a bad S6. Guess what happens when you spin a gear reduction at 1800 flywheel RPM? I have pictures of what happens.... the starter guts turn into scrap metal.

    Generator purchase advice

You're not just talking installing a propane tank, you're suggesting he invest in a completely new propane fired heating system. Not sure how that would be cheaper overall... There are about a dozen other factors you need to consider, not just the difference in fuel consumption between and 802...

    Starting a MEP003a

I think you have a problem with the bendix drive on that starter. FYI, bench testing may not show the problem if there is no resistance applied to the starter drive. In all honesty it is probably going to be cheaper and faster to just buy a new one for about $120 than to have yours fixed, but...

Weak air intake on an MEP-803A

I 2nd or 3rd.?? the leaking valve theory. Probably hanging up on carbon deposits if you have been running under light loads. Typically the motor will seem to crank more steadily and smoother instead of the pulsating you hear with good compression. I have purchased several 803's that would not...

    MEP-016B Injection Pump Jammed

So where did you put the ATF in the top line fitting or did you take the top off and put it inside? If you haven't already done so, you can take the top part off and get the ATF right in. I think this is how the one I worked on originally got messed up. It was stuck but the owner got it freed...

    Advice on Overhauling MEP803A engine

Occasionally they come up on ebay, but none right now. Maybe you could find someone with a 400hz 813 willing to either sell it or part it out for a reasonable price??

    MEP-016B Injection Pump Jammed

No, you can't do that. Everything goes in from the bottom, not the top. Believe me it's very simple... take it out and it's a breeze, might just need a magnifying glass to see the alignment marks on the parts.

Consequences of Failed Interlock – When the Grid Feeds Your (out-of-sync) Generator

Oh yea... not a good thing to mis-match the syncronization! The lesser of the sources will instantaneously " correct itself" violently and in this case catastrophically! I was actually expecting a much louder bang when the relay closed, but still amazing to see the gen jump up in the air.

    MEP-016B Injection Pump Jammed

I have seen issues with these pumps. I recently worked on a 701 that would decrease the fuel flow when you want to increase and vice versa. Turned out the pump was originally stuck and the owner was able to fiddle with it and free it up, but it caused the upper "Cup" to turn and that completely...

Mep-002A 003A 004A 005A Drop in Spin on Fuel filter adapter

I've finished making the first batch of adapters and have posted an ad in the Classified section. Also check out the new pictures of a 3 filter set up ( water separator , coarse filter and fine filter ) Those with a keen eye will notice that both filters are the same PN, that was only for the...
