Do you know what it is doing while trying to start? Is it smoking? If so what color? Is it cranking abnormally fast and smooth ( without the sound of strong compression ) How many hours on it? What are you calling "Cold" weather? That unit would probably start even without the preheaters...

It will come off they way you are doing it, but you're probably hung up on the bearing. Try pulling or prying out on the end cover and then use a large socket and a hammer and whack the outer bearing race towards the radiator to try to get it out of the end cover.

That looks like one of your Field wires chewed in half. If so it should be an easy fix. F1 and F2 simply plug into a pair of .250" Fastons attached inside the end cover. You can easily repair or replace it.

No, you can't do that. Everything goes in from the bottom, not the top. Believe me it's very simple... take it out and it's a breeze, might just need a magnifying glass to see the alignment marks on the parts.
