So the moral of the story here is apparently that we should check fuel flow right at the metering pump inlets.... checking at the Banjo bolt is apparently not enough!
Nice score Chris! looks great. After we talked during our "simultaneous generator recovery trips" I knew you had the top bows, but I see you have what appears to be a brand new canvass as well, definitely a nice addition.
Once prepped and running they should make a couple real nice units, 003's...
For the 4 cyl. the kit is 657-34281 or search for LPW4 or DN4M gasket kit, for $77
For a 2 cyl. ( different head gasket and side cover gasket ) you just have to search for DN2M or LPW2 gasket kit. it's $150 now.
Agree with Chainbreaker. Absolutely do not pay $2300 for an unknown machine and by no means attempt to just start it yourself on-site.
There are plenty of fully tested machines that are done and ready to go with way less hours for less money!
All done and tested and serviced that sounds like a...
Well.... normally I would have been all over this as Guy said, but Christmas Chaos has kept me away from the computer for a few days! I got the PM from Darlene and we have begun to diagnose the IP off-line.
We'll share the findings for everyone as we get through it.
So far it sounds like at...
Ok, so lets start by checking for 24+ going to the panel.
Power comes from the post on the back of the starter solenoid then goes to the MT4 charging shunt.
It then goes through the CR1 Diode and then to the dead crank switch.
From the dead crank normal position power goes to the E-stop switch...
Here's a few quick things to check:
If you are confident that the batteries are connected correctly and all 4 connections are good.
Flip on the panel lights. Do they work? If not, verify your dead crank switch is in the normal position.
Verify the circuit breaker inside the control box above...
Round plate and gasket.... Interesting. I don't think I've ever seen round ones, thought they were all square ones ( with radiused corners ) On every one I've ever had apart. Guess it really makes no difference.
Interesting, I'll be waiting to hear how that stuff works! If possible, post up a few pictures of how you do it.
Last resort, I rebuild the injectors and pumps if you need anything done.
Shoot me a PM if you end up needing anything.
Looks like he already converted to spin-on filters, so that should all be good.
I think it's either a governor issue or possibly fuel injector issue.
Also check the linkage bar from governor arm to the IP. make sure it compresses correctly, if its gummed up with paint it can cause a problem.
I think your issue is probably that your governor droop adjustment is a little off. The -34TM explains how to adjust it in section 7-3
In a nutshell you want to turn the star wheel located under the blower wheel housing, just to the right of the fuel shut off solenoid.
You will see a spring...
Make sure your batteries are both charged fully and the connections are good. I once had a machine that would crank from the dead crank but just click the relays when trying to start from S1. Turned out the battery cross over wire had chaffed through and shorted to the corner of the engine...
Hello everyone, I've rebuilt a few more Mep-002a / 003a injection pumps over the last few weeks and pulled out a bit of hair trying to figure out a problem on one!
So I thought I would share a couple new things I have learned.
#1 when reviving a machine that has been sitting and has a stuck...
Question is.... why did it burn up? I'd hate to see you spend $159 or even $75 on a new one and have that one cook itself right out of the gate as well...
I can't help diagnose what caused it, but hopefully others have experience with it to help you check things before replacing it.
Wow, that puts a new spin on "Fogging the cylinders" with oil prior to storage!
I was at the local parts store looking for fogging oil a couple weeks ago and my wholesale guy said no one carries fogging oil any more and suggested just squirting a little ATF in each cylinder, or a little wd-40...
You're talking about an 002A with 7.8 hours on it? It's worth whatever you can get someone to pay for it!
It depends a lot on your area, the time of year ( they fetch more during a wide scale outage ) and the supply of machines in your area.
In general, where I am located I have sold many real...
Yup, you are burning off carbon for sure. Shouldn't take more than 1/2 hour under load to clear it out. Judging by the small stain at the manifold gasket, it probably wasn't too bad. Sometimes you see black goo just pouring out of that joint! Your's looks pretty good actually.
I've never seen a bad one on an 802/803 but I have seen several on the older 002/003. Just like kurt said, either an open or any out of spec resistance reading on a single winding will cause issues. On the 002/003 it can cause no power output from the machine or incorrect / erratic power readings
