I've owned 800 and 900 series trucks. The rust issue is mostly about where the vehicle is from. Northern vehicles and vehicles from coastal areas are going to have more rust than trucks from the west and south. Tactical miltary vehicles spent 95 per cent of their time in the Motor Pool waiting...
I drove them in the Army and the main reason for the low gearing is to pull heavy loads on bad terrain. I suppose you could put civy rears under it but you would have to figure out how to regear the front end. One option would be to see if you could find a vehicle in a scrap yard that had the...
For the most part the US government does not sell armored vehicles to the general public. Occasionally something slips out but that is the exception rather than the rule.
Does your client want cargo, tractor, wrecker or other versions.
There are several members here that already have export...
Welcome to the Green Iron Laughing Accademy.:cookoo:
The duece was designed to move various types of cargo over all types of terrain while being driven by unmotivated 19 year olds that could care less about maintainence or tearing them up. They were cheap to build and operate and fairly easy to...
The short answer is that you can't buy armored vehicles (historical or otherwise) from the government. In rare cases a legimate museum can get on on loan if they are willing to do the paperwork and pay for transport. There are very few M1's (if any) in private hands.
I live near Anniston Army...
It is a heavy pry bar that is part of the Basic Issue Items (BII) of most armored vehicles. When used by "tread heads" for it's intended purpose it is most often used to "break track" or to get a track back on the tank if the driver slings one (slinging a track will not endear you to your fellow...
That's what MS did....they had to use an additional 5th wheel dolly and a RGN trailer with four axles to spread the weight out. The rig I refer to used to sit near DRMO at Camp Shelby.
The M1070 can haul 240,000 pounds fully loaded. Would it be illegal in MI under their laws? I know the state of Mississippi would not let the military pull the M1000 trailer with a tank on it on state highways. Curious as to how many other states restricted these trucks off of military...
My guess it that they put singles on them to keep them from being over width (and so they could use CTIS). If you could find rims with the proper backspacing I guess you could do it but as stated above: Why?
I put bucket seats out of a Dodge Neon in one of my former deuces. They rode good and there was lots of "tummy room" behind the wheel.
Since you have to build mounts anyway you can custom build them to your specs. You can still use the stock adjustment rails and still be able to slide the seats...
The tires on that truck should have runflats. You can air way down without the tire coming off the rim. Weight is critical for traction but you have to reach a happy medium. Did you say you tried to back up in Low Range? That is a good way to destroy a transfer case. Never back up in Low Range...
The HARSCO/BMY trucks all have the Cummins 8.3 turbo diesel. I like the fact that you can drive down the road and carry on a coversation unlike trucks with the "nifty 250" which is very loud. You can tweak the 8.3 and get a lot more HP unlike the 250 which is, and always was, a dog of an engine...
Pine trees have long tap roots and are a bear to pull out of the ground. You stand a good chance of damaging something or snapping a cable by using a winch to uproot stumps. The winch is built to recover the vehicle not to pull stumps with.
Here is a breakdown of the shirts I have left:
