The M923A2 I picked up yesterday was drained of all fluids. I dropped a few hundred bucks today on anti-freeze, Rotella and Dextron 3. I called one of the big transmission shops in town that serviced our Dodge a while back and he told me that synthetic transmission fluid was a waste of money in...
I'm the guilty party. It was not a deuce I was pulling with the M927. Me and my buddy went to Hotlanta to pick up my new M923. The M927 made it look small I guess. I don't remember it wiggling around much. It pulled so good I just about forgot it was back there. I don't think I was going that...
This coming Friday and Saturday (Nov. 1-2) is the Dixie Division of the MVPA Tannehill rally.
Check out this link for details: http://www.ddmvpa.org/?p=events
I plan on being there but prob not in an MV.
Tannehill State Park is a historic site that once produced iron for Confederate forces...
This coming Friday (Nov. 1) will the the last "First Friday" of the year in Gadsden, AL. This is a street festival type event. They block off most of the downtown area and the street is filled with vehicles, vendors, entertainment and folks out enjoying the stuff on display.
This Friday is a...
The trucks I referred to were the original M915's that had the 400 Cummins with the 16 speed Cat semi-automatic transmission in them. Not sure what the gear ratio in the rears were. The later trucks had the Allison 5 speed and were gear bound by it. The last incarnation had the Freightliner cab...
OK.....I'm having a major memory lapse. I spoke to someone at the recent GA Rally who has a M915 with the CAT transmission in it. I'm still interested in buying/horsetrading it. PM me with contact info. Thanks.
I recommend Landstar. They have always done me right. Their prices are right in line with other shippers and if they tell you a truck will be there you can take it to the bank. Several of their drivers are pros at moving MV's. You can PM me for contact info for the dispatcher I use.
I beg to differ with you Sir. We convoyed in them from Fort Benning, GA, to the National Training Center in Fort Irwin, CA.
The trucks with the Allisons will red light you at 64....the ones with the CAT transmission will pass everything except a fuel stop.
The one I drove had been turned up to...
I replaced a rear 1400 on my M927. For some reason it wore out fast. It had good tread when I got the truck, although it had a slow leak, but after 200 miles the tread was down to the wear bars. The good news is that for now there are a lot of 1400 and 1600 tires that are cheap (for what they are).
My M927 is in very good shape with low miles. It would take 13K to buy it. They sold some M928's in Hotlanta a few months ago and I think they went north of 6K and they looked pretty rough. The long bed trucks have a reinforced frame that makes them ideal to mount a tank or spreader bed on. My...
Unless you drive it a couple of times a week to keep the charge up the batteries will slowly discharge. You could also have a drain somewhere. You could install a battery disconnect and that might solve the problem.
Welcome to the Green Iron Laughing Accademy.:cookoo:
You have plenty of time to get right for the 2014 GA Rally which is, bar none, the best MV rally on the planet.
You are aware that a deuce is a "gateway drug" to the dreaded Green Iron Addiction, right.
First it's a deuce.....then a...
You can but it puts the weight behind the wheels instead of on top of them where you get the most traction. In my opinion it would cause the front end to raise up more than if you had the weight on the 5th wheel itself. Just my opinion for what it's worth.
He said he has an M932 tractor. It...
The first M915 I had was full of electrical grimlins. Light switch failed, ignition switch had to be bypassed so I could drive it home and the breakers were alway popping. The second one came with the alternator and starter wires fried due to incorrect battery installation by the unit that owned...
Does yours have the Freightliner cab? I tend to view anything "fly by wire" with suspicion. Since my relationship with Mr.Murphy is long and fraught with lessons learned I prefer to have some manual connection between shifter and transmission. Since I often shift my M927 manually I wonder if you...
The 900 series trucks with the 8.3 Cummins are a little better on fuel but you are talking about a vehicle with the aerodynamics of a concrete block and low gearing. I have visions of a 900 series bobber with a 5th wheel to haul my van trailer around (I just bought a M923 with that in mind)...
