See this scenario is why I was halfway serious about my "animal" remark, the electronic trans won't downshift if the injection pump went to WOT on it's own internally.
The heads on the pickup version of the 6.5 are different than the van/bus/H1/HMMWV version, the intake ports are at a different angle. You can use the pickup SHORT block but that is getting you into a lot of work.
If you have a way of verifying that the injection pump is doing this on its own, as in the control shaft isn’t rotating, your injection pump is crapping out internally. Time for rebuilding.
I would jump the neutral switch first, next I would check the wiring at the starter, next I would check the cannon connector at the start box under the hood. I think you have corroded connections somewhere, not related to your remote start setup.
Need to know what the 6.5 is out of, pickup or van/bus? The pickup 6.5 has the side mount turbocharger and that won’t fit in a HMMWV. Electronic injection pump has to be replaced with mechanical.
I think you have two different transfers, the one with two control shafts is for a WWII GMC CCKW with banjo axles, the one with one control shaft is for a 1950's GMC "G749" deuce and a half with the single speed transfer.
Value is what someone will give you for them. Swap meet price I would...
I think it’s ok. You see towbars set up like that all the time in wartime photos. Your 08 is looking real good btw, I really like that you have the cargo enclosure set up. That is a ton of scrounging and work.
Here is a list of US Army (not USMC) mules that remained in service in the 1980's. As you can see, backing into a year of MFG is dependent on getting the registration number from the platform by carefully sanding with a DA sander. List courtesy of member Carnac.
Unfortunate situation. On the side of the platform, is there any possibility that the registration number has been painted over, along with the service branch? You might have to do extremely careful sanding to find this. Typically people do not sandblast these like what happens with steel...
