What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Just tried it out in the dark and it is VERY nice! Puts out more light than you would think. Wish I would have added this when I first bought truck.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

When I was at the salvage yard in AZ, picked up a ton of small items. One is this GM UnderHood retractable Work light. Works great and will install it in my M1008A1 engine bay. Yes I know it didn’t come on a factory fresh cucv and probably wasn’t even available yet on civi trucks. Was only...

    M932A2 CTIS 5 solid lights

It’s definitely an expensive system to repair and maintain. I’ve spent too much on mine already with lots of new parts and am still chasing CTIS gremlins. It’s a pain to have to do it manually, but a whole lot cheaper. I’m about ready to install Schrader valves on the wheels and be done...

4 Blade Flat Trailer Connection to PU-798a Trailer

    Very nice write up!

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

With the GPR1, isn’t there a chance of a blade terminal coming off from vibration? That style solenoid isn’t typically used as a replacement from what I’ve read here on SS.

    Heater blows cold

Replace thermostat with the correct one. The 6.2L takes the “hockey puck” style. Other standard style will work, but is wrong for this engine. This is the correct one. https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/chevrolet,1984,k30+pickup,6.2l+379cid+v8+diesel,1053021,cooling+system,thermostat,2200

    1008 CUCV 4 Antenna Locations

NSN confirms that you have a M1008A1. 1984 Might want to look at your VIN again. 4th character should be a G.

    Heater blows cold

There’s another thread on this page that covered this somewhat. Bent linkage would explain blowing cold air, but not cold hose. Sounds like a possible clogged heater core. Maybe just coincidence with your friends using it. Did they go four wheeling? Maybe knocking something loose inside...

ENGINE CONTROL FUSE BLOWING #17 20a

Your discovering why most guys here recommend keeping truck stock. Wiring anyway. That way you have the TMs to consult and a lot more help here. The starting and charging system is a solid, proven design. Maybe not the best as it could be, but it works very well.

ENGINE CONTROL FUSE BLOWING #17 20a

Engine temp sensor is drivers side head at the front. Glow Plug temp sensor is drivers side on top of block by firewall. The sensor you took pic of, as already stated, is the High-Idle temp sensor for the solenoid on top of the IP. No idea what the wiring is in the other pic. Since your...

    M101a2... brake...slam...skid...slam...skid

If one was like that, then I would replace them all. A shock failing is one thing, but if one of those fails at the wrong time could possibly make for a really bad day.

ENGINE CONTROL FUSE BLOWING #17 20a

The sensor bypassed/not connected is for the Hi-idle solenoid. No clue on rest since system has been modified.

Is this worth getting?! Junkyard Find

Dana 70HD Axle, sway bar, and springs have been sold. Now I don’t have to go back to AZ to remove it.

Thank you I found that out later. Another SS member called and discussed the schematics and troubleshooting with me.

What exactly was done with this MSE modification? M101A2

1992 UTB M101A2 Box on a M116A2 Frame. Searched SS with no luck. What exactly is done with a MSE Modification? Part number came up empty. Contract number dealt with generators, etc. but no M101A2’s. Internet was dry also unless I totally missed it. Closest I could find is Mobil Subscriber...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

No technical reason at all. I like all my MVs as stock as possible, with very few exceptions. That’s me. I don’t care if the other is easier, better, cheaper, etc. That’s what it came with and that’s how it stays. For better or worse. If it fails again, I will drive another one of my...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Resistor checked good. Will not convert GPs to 12v. Truck will stay stock. Edit: Truck will not get the resistor bypass modification. I know the glow plugs are 12v. Above wording was in reference to the resistor bypass.
