Subscribed......I once bought a 1960 International Travelette (crew cab) to put on a deuce but it ended up having far too many rust issues. I think there have been a couple of folks on here that had put a civy cab on an MV. I would seriously consider the air ride cab and air ride seats. Five...
I have protective custody of an M36 with the 8.3 in it. Unless you turn the fuel to it that wrecker will not get out of it's own way. At 36,000 pounds it is slow. Add the towed weight of an deuce or larger vehicle and you have a toad in the road. I was once the proud owner of an M816 but it...
When I was at Fort Benning I was a Drivers Trainer/Road Tester. One of the other sections sent me a little gal (the Army gave her a waiver on her height) that prob weighed 95 pounds soaking wet. Her section had trained her so naturally I had to unteach her all the bad habits they normally taught...
I have a 10K generator mounted on a trailer. The trailer is like new and has surge brakes. I have 2900.00 in it and will take cash or trade for something else I don't need. I also have a M105 bed that was going to be used for a bobber but wasn't. It has been sandblasted except for the bottom...
Derek (TaylorTradingCo) and I will be heading to Sparta next Sunday (15 Sept) to load out two HETTs. We may be in my Dodge Dakota (if I can get the pinion seal fixed) and will be turning and burning (spend Sun night at Sparta) and will be heading back Monday after we get the trucks loaded. I can...
If you are proactive and work with the GL folks (do not make them mad) you can usually get an extension, especially in your case where you have multiple items. Do not call them at the last minute and expect them to pull your fat out of the fire.
In your situation I would consider finding a...
I bought a stripped one for a few hundred bucks from GL a few years ago. Papa Bear still has it (did a horse trade for an engine he had) in Columbus, GA. The only issue using it for your purpose is folks having to climb and descend stairs to get to the produce. You incur liability for that...
The last time I went by his place the gate was locked and it looked like no one had been around lately. He was an older feller and may have passed away or be in poor health. I have moved since I first posted this and don't get over that way a lot.
There are extensions you can get to put on the valve on the inner tires so you can air them up easier. Several of my GL deuces had them on already. If my primary puter wasn't FUBAR I'd post a pic.
Since this thread has been revived let me add this: I got rid of my M816. I sold it to my scrapper buddy that made a real nice wrecker out of it (he owns a commercial tow service too). It has not moved since he reworked the engine and did some nice mods to it because he can't find a driver that...
Before you ditch the stock batteries try slow charging them for a couple of days. It's a slow process with one charger (I have two and it still takes several days) but it might save you the cost of new batteries. At full charge they should show 13+ volts using a multi-meter. You can do it with...
It sounds like it is losing prime. There is either a pinhole in the line or a loose connection. Check where the line crosses under the radiator from the primary fuel filter. They are prone to damage there. Good luck, fuel grimlins can be a booger to find.
Be prepared for sticker shock on the radiator. I cost me 800 bucks to get the one on my former wrecker re-cored. CSMdavis in MS has a bunch of 900 series parts and is planning on attending the GA Rally next month. PM him and see if he can help fix your or can give you a deal on a replacement.
Flat towing an MV with another MV is not for the faint of heart or the inexperienced....especially long distances. My guess is that your insurance will not cover a towing accident but you can check. You will be a toad in the road, especially on the Interstate. Been there, done that, got the...
