M820 Trailer Project - Advice Needed

All the 17 ft expansible vans are variants of the M4 body. The design changed over the years but fundamentally they all do the same thing.

M820 Trailer Project - Advice Needed

I do believe that is a M313 trailer from the Viet Nam era. It does look kinda rotten. Those do not age well. I would go over it with a fine tooth comb before buying it. I am looking for the van body as well to put on a M292A2 deuce chassis and have passed on dozens of these that are too far...

    help with run flat tool

That thing is a pos. The only way to do the runflats is the YouTube method with hydraulic jack. Be careful I almost took out an eye when the jack slipped.

Cat 7155 Transmission ---Need help diagnosing problem with leaking air at Xsnm shifter control Assby block

Wow. How difficult was it to unbolt this through the access hole in cab floor? How many labor hours in are you at this point? Do you think the rest of the plungers are at end of life as well? Thanks.

    Tire tube change questions

Do you see the keyhole? Stick your lock ring tool in there and pry the ring up. Once the ring is started out of the recess, use your tire tools to continue to pry the ring up and off.

Blown Head Gasket Recovery (no longer) - Massive Engine Failure (!)

Where are the nuts?? Highly unusual that the nuts are no longer threaded on.

Blown Head Gasket Recovery (no longer) - Massive Engine Failure (!)

Ugh. Show us what the #5 rod bolts look like. This looks a lot like classical "threw a rod". Motor is so clean you can eat off it :(

    New (returning) member

Welcome. That thing in your picture is the throttle servo that was used to control engine speed when the PTO generator was installed. You can remove it.

Cat 7155 Transmission ---Need help diagnosing problem with leaking air at Xsnm shifter control Assby block

That is a good question. The manifolds that are available ($$$) were surplussed out back in the GL days, which is like 10 years ago. Already getting old for O rings. And then figure Uncle had them on the shelf for ? years. So that opens up the “R Racing” rebuild scenario which appears to be...

Blown Head Gasket Recovery (no longer) - Massive Engine Failure (!)

OMG. I don't think you have a blown head gasket initially, (might be now), I think a huge crack opened up in the cylinder wall. All the parts you want to reuse need to be checked for damage and straightness. Never heard of this failure mode on a 6.5 myself. I would be very upset after...

Cat 7155 Transmission ---Need help diagnosing problem with leaking air at Xsnm shifter control Assby block

Rebuilding the manifold is no simple task: CAT 7155 Manifold rebuild | SteelSoldiers Mine is doing the exact same thing.

    303M HydraMatic rebuild

Thanks for documenting this. Talk about a lost art. At some point in this thread can you hypothesize what reduction unit components get stuck together when you have the dreaded lockup in high range.

    Purchased a 6.5td from 3500 truck for my M998 & have questions

Is your block GM or Navistar? I believe GM quit casting the 6.5 right around then.

CUCV II 6.5 "no start" nightmare solved

Wanted to document this as it applies to 6.2, 6.5 engines in both CUCVs and HMMWVs. After sitting for a few months, my 6.5 TD with DB4 electronic injection would crank but not start. As we know, these IDI engines need fuel, compression, and glow to start. I knew mechanically the engine is...

What to do with old Armasafe batteries?

While we are on the topic of ancient Armasafes, I JUST had a 2011 battery die after around 8 years on the maintainer. It was fine until one day the maintainer said "load present" and sure enough the battery case was warm. Voltage dropped off after a day off the maintainer. Bye old friend.

    Transmission control module questions

Did you click on the link, go to post 8, open supplement 7, and read page 49 about the 12 and 24 volt circuitry that is needed for the TCM to come to life?

What to do with old Armasafe batteries?

Obtain an AGM maintainer, connect it to the dead battery. The maintainer will say "Battery is flatlined". Obtain a GOOD agm battery and connect the two batteries IN PARALLEL. (positive to positive, negative to negative). Reconnect the maintainer. This time the maintainer will see voltage...
